What do you think of Bambi for a girls name?

just no

MaMaD1990 · 06/06/2021 21:13

Please, just don't.

partyatthepalace · 06/06/2021 21:14

Oh Christ no - that really Is a porn actress name.

In Italy it’s just short for bambino - which means child not baby girl - and I’ve never heard anyone being called that - it would be weird.

Anyway NO

What about

Nemo
Dumbo
Tigger
Goofy

@shuz1980

Bambi is an Italian girls name that means baby girl. Thanks for all the feedback though.
But she'll be an adult some day. "And here's our CEO, Bambi Johnson, MBA..."
shuz1980 · 06/06/2021 21:16

@ChairOnToast i am. My grandad was born in Italy. And we often go and visit relatives there. Just wanted to get peoples reaction to the name as i know its so different.

Isn't baby girl "bambina" in Italian? That's not used as a proper name though. It's just an odd choice. I would find Bambi quite a burdensome name to live with.

If you want something with a similar meaning, Alannah is a beautiful option.

greenlynx · 06/06/2021 21:17

Agree with PPs : please don’t

RedLemon · 06/06/2021 21:17

Too close to Bimbo.

CatsPyjama · 06/06/2021 21:18

I think your child will change their name as soon as they can. You’re naming someone that will grow up having to put up with the same reactions on this thread.

PattyPan · 06/06/2021 21:18

It’s awful. And no, it doesn’t mean baby girl in Italian. Bambina or bimba mean female child. Even if it did, that’s still a rubbish name - you need to bear in mind she won’t be a baby girl forever and your name needs to be suitable for an adult too.

lakesummer · 06/06/2021 21:18

It isn't going to travel well into the English speaking world.
The best known Bambi is a male baby deer with a sad back story.
The second best known is a adult sex worker.
Neither are good images for your dc.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 06/06/2021 21:20

Yup I get baby deer and call girl. Sorry.

Duchess379 · 06/06/2021 21:21

If you don't want her to be taken seriously, ever, then yeah, sure.

PattyPan · 06/06/2021 21:21

There are lots of lovely Italian actual names if you want to honour your heritage. Bella, Elena, Maria, Barbara, Serena, Sara, Angelica, Antonia, Giovanna, Teresa, Emilia etc...

paralysedbyinertia · 06/06/2021 21:23

It might be fine for a little girl. Not fine for a grown woman.

lakesummer · 06/06/2021 21:23

I remember a thread about Francesca.
Which most thought was a lovely name and Italian in origin.

Even worse.

I hate to break this to you OP, but like puppies, baby humans also don’t stay babies forever.

Zanzibar55 · 06/06/2021 21:33

Please don't do that to your daughter.

wishingitwasfriday · 06/06/2021 21:36

Would you want to be called Bambi? Whilst living in, I presume, the uk? Would you want to answer the phone at work "hello bambi speaking how can I help" etc etc.
I know I wouldn't. Why not use it as a middle name and that way, if your daughter likes it, you can call her bambi and it'll be more of a nickname.
