Koa

What do we think of Koa as a name? Its the only boys name me and my partner seem to be able to agree on. (I liked more traditional 'Noah' but he didn't)
Apparently its a Hawaiian name, we have no connections to Hawaii though. His middle name would be John for my grandad and surname begins with S and ends in N.
Any other suggestions welcome, I like names that are less common at least in my area. Some of my other favourites were Silas (doesn't go with surname) Elijah (partner doesn't like) and Sage (again surname)

Are you saying it to rhyme with Noah? I mean he might get a few people mishearing Noah or Cola but I think it's fine.

I'd go "oh that's interesting" And not think much of it

giletrouge · 06/06/2021 13:44

Nope. Sounds like Koala gone wrong.

ofwarren · 06/06/2021 13:45

My first thought was Koala too

Nope

ColaOlaLa · 06/06/2021 14:03

No

BlueDucky · 06/06/2021 14:06

I quite like it. I hate your other choices though.

Camandmitch · 06/06/2021 15:35

I know a Koa. His name is often mistaken for Noah.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 06/06/2021 15:47

I'd use it as a middle name.

definitely not as a first name, sorry

LittleBearPad · 06/06/2021 15:55

No

LifesNotEnidBlyton · 06/06/2021 15:57

I like it but there's a big vegan family who do vlogs on YouTube whose son has that name and I just think of them.... But I do like it.

MindYourLanguage · 06/06/2021 15:58

Also the name of a campsite brand in the US: koa.com/

MaMelon · 06/06/2021 16:00

No. Unless you have a good knowledge of Hawaiian names it sounds like the parents made it up.

Names that aren’t common in your area could literally be anything. What sort of names do you like?

Tal45 · 06/06/2021 16:18

A good name for a koala but not a child, definitely hold out for Noah.

percheron67 · 06/06/2021 16:28

Very odd.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 06/06/2021 16:31

I quite like but have to admit I assumed when I opened the thread it was a girls name.

I see you also like Sage which I like but again only known it for girls - one real life girl I know of and one tv character. I do think it lends itself well to being a unisex name though.

If you like Silas and Elijah you might like Elias?

Ellmau · 06/06/2021 16:32

I wouldn't if you don't have any Hawaiian connections.

Iknowyouknow · 06/06/2021 16:33

I assumed girl too though never heard of it.

FelicityPike · 06/06/2021 16:34

It’s lovely. Very unusual.

RaspberryCoulis · 06/06/2021 16:35

Koka Koa?

Awful.

TheVanguardSix · 06/06/2021 16:36

No. Don’t.
I’ve spent a lot of time in Hawaii growing up.
It’s a wood. I think of koa wood salad spoons you bring back as gifts. Smile

Runkle · 06/06/2021 16:39

No. Sounds too pretentious.

OhTheTastyNuts · 06/06/2021 16:39

It's fine. As with a pp, I'd register it as being different the first time I heard it, and then not give it a second's thought.

springblossom2 · 06/06/2021 16:42

No - sorry.

SpeakFriendAndEnter · 06/06/2021 16:50

I like it
