Be honest - what do you think of the name Inkeri?

People won't know how to pronounce it, and most won't know its heritage.

Do you have a Norse surname too? I think it works better when there's less explaining needed

KaptainKaveman · 06/06/2021 07:40

It sounds too much like 'winky' or 'tinker'.

BramStoker · 06/06/2021 07:41

Not a name I've ever come accross so I would guess at Ink-urry?

It doesn't have a particular nice sound to my ears

KatherineJaneway · 06/06/2021 07:41

I wouldn't have pronounced it correctly. I looked at it and thought 'Ink - ari'

Leeloo1233 · 06/06/2021 07:43

Last name could be nordic, but I'm not sure if this name is a bit too much to be honest as we might live in the UK. Not sure it sounds like a girl's name either to people not use to the name.

Definitely too much in the U.K. - assuming it's not a name from your own culture?

Leeloo1233 · 06/06/2021 07:45

It would be from my culture, but not my husband's.

In that case go for it - why not? It doesn't sound like an offensive word in English and isn't impossible to pronounce so if you like it, have it!

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 06/06/2021 07:56

I assumed it was made up because you just thought it sounded cool, tbh. So I would probably end up explaining what it means and how it comes from your and baby's heritage while they were small a lot if it were me. But if you're really attached to it, everyone will get used to it and it will just become her name.

Would the nickname be "Inky", though? Grin

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 06/06/2021 07:57

Oh, is it a masculine name? There you go - to me in English it definitely sounded feminine! So that's another assumption people will probably make.

It is feminine.

Same root as Ingrid I think.

lottiegarbanzo · 06/06/2021 08:14

Is it INK-err-y or In-Kerry? I'd read it as the first one.

In-Kerry

I must admit I assumed female. Nicknames are likely to be Inky or Keri. Again Keri in the U.K. would be more female.

Stokey · 06/06/2021 08:37

I've never heard of it, but think it's fine. It may depend where you live. In London, unusual names barely raise an eyebrow. There are a vast array of different names at my kids' school.

Leeloo1233 · 06/06/2021 08:58

Another one we are thinking of is Lovisa, a variation of Louisa

OP posts:
partyatthepalace · 06/06/2021 09:31

I think Inkeri might be less annoying fir her than Lovisa, which would be constantly mispronounced. Although if you could pick something that has more international traction eg Astrid that would be easier still. But Inkeri is easy enough to figure out.

AfterSchoolWorry · 06/06/2021 09:33

I like it, nice sound!

Violetlavenders · 06/06/2021 09:37

I really like Inkeri.

Is it Finnish?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 06/06/2021 09:37

Do you pronounce the 'v' in Lovisa? I like both but probably Lovisa more (I'm assuming it's pronounced Low-ve-sa)

DuckingMel · 06/06/2021 09:40

Inkeri on ehkä vähän liian vaikea, mutta Lovisa on parempi.

DotsandCo · 06/06/2021 09:40

Unusual, but I like it 🥰 Nickname would definitely be Kerri, which is feminine in the UK though and I'm not sure whether this is male or female OP? Either way, it's a very cool name and your child would love it I'm sure.

DropItBouncer · 06/06/2021 09:59

I like it. I'd think it was a girls name if I saw it.

I'm a supply teacher and sometimes have twenty five names I don't know how to pronounce on a register. I'd pronounce Inkeri as in-ker-ee.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/06/2021 10:06

I don't like it. It's not an attractive name.

OppsUpsSide · 06/06/2021 10:09

I think it’s perfectly fine
