Be honest - what do you think of the name Inkeri?

I’d have guessed at In-Kerry so that’s good. Looks to my anglophone eyes like a female name from another culture - also good. Easy enough to spell, easy to pronounce once you’ve heard it, doesn’t sound like a word for genitals or anything similarly unfortunate. All good.

Squiggy · 06/06/2021 10:15

I like both your names.

Mollymalone123 · 06/06/2021 10:18

Like both names and in our school there are a huge array of different names-that at first we may struggle to pronounce correctly but we always ask the child first how to say it- go for it!

Ellmau · 06/06/2021 10:25

I prefer Lovisa.

EssentialHummus · 06/06/2021 10:28

I think it’s fine. Would say In-Kerry unless you told me otherwise. I guess nicknames Kerry or Inky?

Vikingintraining · 06/06/2021 10:32

I think Inkeri sounds really pretty! Don't worry about people not knowing how to pronounce or spell it. On this site people always complain about that but in real life no one is bothered, they just ask how to say/spell it once and remember it for next time. I am a Lovisa so I am biased on that one Smile

Violetlavenders · 06/06/2021 10:40

I'd pronounce it IN-ker-i unless told otherwise

Chilldonaldchill · 06/06/2021 12:09

I think it sounds very pretty and I'd have assumed it was feminine and I'd have pn it correctly.
Also Inke is a lovely shortening if she wants one.
Lovisa is nice but I imagine will need more explaining because people might be more likely to mishear it as Louisa.

TatianaBis · 06/06/2021 12:29

I think it’s very pretty.

Greenmarmalade · 06/06/2021 12:32

Love it! Don’t give too much thought to whatever everyone thinks. In multicultural Britain there are all sorts of names and there’s no issue! I’m sure your child will end up with a nickname from friends no matter what you call them anyway.

timoteigirl · 12/06/2021 13:24

Living here and needing to spell my name every time I meet a new person, I don't think I would give Inkeri. I also would have the Inkeri land and peopel connection if I came across this name. Lovisa or Loviisa would cause problems as well. To me these names are similar in style as for example Heta.

There are other old fashioned Finnish names that are more commonly known in the UK such as
Elvira- too Goth?
Serafina - people know from Golden Compass now
Ursula
Selma
Vilma
Aurora
Erika
Saga
Elina - if you don't mind it's a Barbie name
Alisa
Elsa - Frozen connection
Kerttu? Pirkko? harder or easier?

You could also consider choosing a Scandi name such as Ingrid or look at Swedish names list from Almanakka.fi

VenusClapTrap · 12/06/2021 23:09

I like it!

Saisong · 12/06/2021 23:18

Just like to point out that 'Kerry is not universally feminine in the UK. In Wales Ceri is often a boys name.

motogogo · 12/06/2021 23:32

I like it, can anglicise to keri if in U.K. if you wish

Tillygetsit · 12/06/2021 23:46

First time I've heard it. So pretty. It sounds musical to my ear.

alexdgr8 · 12/06/2021 23:49

No.
