Eve or Evie

Love the name Evie but aware it's been popular now for a lot of years. Love Eve but is it a bit bland? Looking at using both names but for her official name, what do you prefer...

Eve with the nickname of Evie whilst she is younger

Evie with the nickname Eve

Any other name suggestions welcome, I like Thea, Violet and Willow but other half isn't keen

Eve

If you’re worried about being overused they both are - so don’t use either. Along with Eva, Ava and Aoife which all sound really similar. But if you like the name go with Eve for a more grown up sound. And this coming from the woman who called both her DC the most popular name of the year because I like them!

MumofSpud · 03/06/2021 10:12

Both Eva and Evie were in my short list with DD (and Ava).
But where we were living at the time I didn't like the pronunciation of Eva/Ava (shallow I know!)
And I then didn't like Evie for an adult name.
So I called my DD another name starting with E and she has Violet as the middle name (her great grandmother's name) so she is 'EV'
I would go with Eve Violet (Evie as a nn)

MumofSpud · 03/06/2021 10:13

Just reread - Thea was also on my list! We went with Esme in the end!

IdblowJonSnow · 03/06/2021 10:13

Eve.

CoalCraft · 03/06/2021 10:27

Eve is a classic, sensible, mature and dignified name

Evie is a little girl's name, and also a pokemon

CanIBeACurlyGirl · 03/06/2021 10:30

DD is officially Evie who we now call Eve as she is older.

TatianaBis · 03/06/2021 10:57

Or something less everywhere?

SionnachRua · 03/06/2021 10:59

Eve nn Evie. Of the two, I'd have the less cutesy one on the birth cert.

Thegirlhasnoname · 03/06/2021 11:01

Evie is apparently popular going by the name charts but my 2 year old Evie has yet to meet another of her name (same age of older).

Off topic but it proper grinds my gears when people like PP say “Evie is a Pokemon” because Teddy is a stuffed toy yet droves of people still call their kids that 😒

Thegirlhasnoname · 03/06/2021 11:03

Also, if you really like Evie then go for it. Our Evie has a “grown up” middle name that she could decide to go by if she really wants when she’s older but as of right now she seemingly adores her name

YourStarlessEyes · 03/06/2021 11:06

Eve!

It's not as popular as you think. It's only really the other variants that are (Eva, Evie etc)

Thefaceofboe · 03/06/2021 11:39

I would go with Eve, nn Evie Smile

WellJuhnelle · 03/06/2021 11:41

We have an Evangeline, she is only little now so her nickname is Evie but she can go by Eve, Eva or Evangeline as she gets older - whatever she chooses

KirstenBlest · 03/06/2021 11:48

Eve. Not short for anything. Evie as a nn.

BiBabbles · 03/06/2021 12:41

I think Eve's nice, not bland at all.

If you want to avoid something popular, Evangeline as the pp used is lovely. Considering your other names - maybe Aveline, Bethia, Althea.

Orphlids · 03/06/2021 13:33

Eve is much better. It’s elegant, no frills, and will work on a grown woman. Evie is so cutesy, I can’t imagine it working well on anyone beyond toddlerhood, unfortunately. Plus, there are Evies EVERYWHERE. I seldom hear Eve, although it does blend in with all the similar names.

Serpenta · 03/06/2021 13:44

Eve is a lovely elegant name and she can easily move between Eve and Evie depending on age and who she's with etc.

Evie reminds me of The House of Elliot. I used to love watching those two sisters stressing over another fashion house copying their button design. Evie was very beautiful! (if a tad humourless)

Wildweather · 03/06/2021 13:45

I'm an Eve, I often get Evie as a nickname and am very happy with either. Bias but I love my name Smile

SamMil · 03/06/2021 13:51

I think Eve, with Evie as a nickname Smile

CoalCraft · 03/06/2021 15:13

@Thegirlhasnoname

to be fair, Teddy is not a good full name either, for the same reason! It's a nice nickname though, and Theodore is a nice full name.

partyatthepalace · 03/06/2021 16:43

Eve nn Evie is the best if you really want to use it (the other way round is odd), all the variations (Eve/Eva/Evelyn/Ava) are super popular but Eve is still a lovely and elegant name.

If the popularity puts you off perhaps Esther? Violet is nice, but I think Willow is wet and Thea very nothing-y. Stella, Tessa or Jasmine any good?

PetraRabbit · 03/06/2021 17:05

Eve is simple and classy, a nice name. Evie is twee, sounds babyish on a woman and will date terribly. Sorry!

NannyR · 03/06/2021 17:09

I love evangeline, you could have evie as a nickname, pronounced eevie or evvie if you wanted it to be a bit less popular.

cptartapp · 03/06/2021 17:12

Both a bland nowadays tbh. Evie is particularly weak.
