Ivy or Sadie?

Hi all! We are expecting our first baby on 5 June, and we thought we had picked the name Sadie. The second name we shortlisted was Ivy. Middle name will be Catherine (family ties).

For some reason I keep questioning Sadie though and I'm wondering if it means it's not quite the right pick for us. I am known to be a little indecisive(!), and I really don't want to wait until she arrives to finalise the choice as I know I'll feel backed into a corner....

I've always loved the name Ivy but it's more popular. Sadie was never a name on my radar before pregnancy but we like that it's less common without being too 'out there'.

So what do you all think? Ivy Catherine or Sadie Catherine?!

Sadie. Ivy is a 90-year-old.

I love Sadie so much. It is my dogs name but only because I was having no more children.

Sadie makes me think of sadist - so definitely a no. I like ivy.

Neither are my taste (although I like Catherine!), but of the two- Sadie. Whilst it's a bit of a nn, it has had steady regular use over the years compared to Ivy which will likely date imo.

Ivy is a lovely name. I really dislike Sadie but I'll admit I know one who I don't like which is influencing this.

Both lovely. But probably Sadie - Ivy has got really popular lately and will therefore probably date. Iris is also lovely, and less popular.

I know more baby Sadie's than Ivy's (in London) so not sure there's a huge difference in popularity. I think Ivy Catherine goes best.

I know Ivy is popular at the moment but I find it quite ugly.

Sadie is out of the top 100 and Ivy is number 12 so a big difference in popularity. I think with Ivy sounding similar to Evie, Ava type names, this also increases its feeling of familiarity. I really like Sadie for what it’s worth, but if it’s not feeling right, maybe you need to go back to the longer list. I totally agree with not waiting until she’s born (I made that mistake with my first) Good luck x

Wow, Ivy was the 12th most popular girls' name in 2019. I hadn't realised it was that popular.

It's a bit like Florence, @Starsandglitter. The first time I heard of a baby Ivy or Florence I was surprised, but then they quickly multiplied. Hadn't realised how much. People love the Victorian names Smile

Just tell me Mildred isn't making a comeback.

Ivy is too old lady for my taste, it's quite popular here and sounds like all the Ava, Evie, Eva type names that are so common at the moment.
