Ivy or Sadie?

Hi all! We are expecting our first baby on 5 June, and we thought we had picked the name Sadie. The second name we shortlisted was Ivy. Middle name will be Catherine (family ties).

For some reason I keep questioning Sadie though and I'm wondering if it means it's not quite the right pick for us. I am known to be a little indecisive(!), and I really don't want to wait until she arrives to finalise the choice as I know I'll feel backed into a corner....

I've always loved the name Ivy but it's more popular. Sadie was never a name on my radar before pregnancy but we like that it's less common without being too 'out there'.

So what do you all think? Ivy Catherine or Sadie Catherine?!
Thanks

Doilooklikeatourist · 28/05/2021 22:33

I don’t like Sadie
Catherine Ivy
Catherine is by the far the better name

Bedtimedear · 28/05/2021 22:37

I absolutely love both! I would find it hard to choose! Just wanted to tell you lovely names either way! Grin

Ivy, Sadie can be shortened to Sad or potentially be nick named Sadist.

Kids can be cruel, my DD hates her name as it can be changed to a very rude word ending in ina, which some kids used to regularly shout after her at school. She now uses her middle name instead.

Sadie is so cool and underused! Sadie Catherine!

JemimaJoy · 29/05/2021 00:03

aibutohavethisusername · 29/05/2021 00:05

CandyLeBonBon I knew a very lovely Ivy but I'm pretty sure she was always 90. Grin

Ivy is beautiful, Ivy Catherine is a lovely name.

For Sadie all I can think of is the song "Sadie the Cleaning Lady".

Happycat1212 · 29/05/2021 03:33

Sadie!

My daughter is called Sadie and the only people who do that are her older brothers! Everyone else has been fine ime.

Both lovely names, but I think you should go with Sadie that's the one you have always loved

Imcrc · 30/05/2021 06:55

Sadie definitely!
Ivy is lovely, but it's very popular right now. Sadie is so sweet imo, and its known but uncommon right now. I love names like Sadie and Stevie

KirstenBlest · 30/05/2021 19:09

I don't like Ivy at all, so Sadie.

C0nstance · 30/05/2021 19:11

Sadie is so much prettier, if you care about that. I know some people quite like a hard name.

Disfordarkchocolate · 30/05/2021 19:13

I like Sadie but to me it ends up 'Sadie the Bra Lady'. Unless you are local to me this will mean nothing to you.

I prefer Sadie to Ivy. Ivy feels like a cold name to me. What about Sally?

LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 30/05/2021 20:31

Ivy. Sadie was the nickname of one of Manson's girls so it's always had negative connotations for me but I guess younger generations won't get the connection.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 30/05/2021 20:32

Sadie. So many Ivys around now.

MadeOfStarStuff · 31/05/2021 15:46

Love Sadie, not a fan of Ivy

Sadie is cooler and Ivy kind of blends into to Evie/Isla type names
