Alternative to Thea?

Leeloo1233 · 27/05/2021 16:25

I have always loved the name Thea but my friend gave it to her daughter about a year ago. Any alternatives that I could use? We are a French/English and Finnish couple and it is hard to find a name that fits on all languages and Thea was exactly this :(

Just use Thea then.

ILoveStickers · 27/05/2021 16:28

Use Thea - people are usually flattered that you think they have great taste, rather than annoyed.

Otherwise:

Anna

Maria

Prepare for about 1000 posters to tell you that no one owns a name and you should use it anyway.

They are right. If you really love it that much then it doesn't matter that your friend used it. It's a pretty common name nowadays, it really won't matter. If anything, its a compliment that you both think it's such a lovely name.

Use Thea.

If you had said your sister used it a year ago then obviously that would make it unusable but a friend even if it was your best friend in the whole world nah I would still be using the name.

I wouldn't use the same name as a friend only people on mn seem to do that , I don't know anyone that h as done that irl. People might pretend to be flattered but really they aren't

Sally872 · 27/05/2021 16:39

I would also not use the same name as a friend.

Would you have been pronouncing it 'tee-ah'? Or 'they-ah'?

DD1 has a Thea and Tia in her class at school. Their mum’s are friends as well.

SecretWitch · 27/05/2021 16:50

My mother’s name is Cynthia. Her older friends and family call her “Thea”.

Leeloo1233 · 27/05/2021 16:59

Thanks for all the comments. It is a tough one because we are childhood friends and even though live in different countries still stay in touch quite a bit. We are desperate though.

Other options we have are Hilma and Ida, both Finnish names

Hilma and Ida are both really lovely

Laquila · 27/05/2021 17:13

Oh my gosh, just read that you live in different countries - DEFINITELY go for Thea, if it's your pref!!

Just seen your update, If you are in different countries and the children won’t be growing up together then it’s fine I think as that’s pretty different, I would mention it first though

If you live in different countries then you'd be mad not to go for it! But your alternatives are both pretty and manage to do that quite difficult job of being both unusual and not difficult to spell at the same time, so you're onto a winner either way.
