Hi!

I’m 28 weeks and decided not to find out whether it’s a boy or a girl. DH and I are utterly clashing on names and can’t agree on anything!

I’d love your opinions on the following as I am falling down a Pinterest hole and need a reality check...names below are on the reasonable list!

For a boy -
Lysander
Blythe (although is this unisex as I like it for either?)
Laurence (Laurie for short)

For a girl -
Posie
Ramona
Sage
Aurelie

I like all your boy names - only really like Aurelie on your girls list.

LarkDescending · 24/05/2021 15:49

I love Laurence/Laurie, and like Aurelie.

Blythe is nice for a girl, if not particularly my style, but I don’t like it for a boy.

Twinkie01 · 24/05/2021 15:56

Laurence but Laurie for a boy. I'm not keen on your girls names, sorry.

EssentialHummus · 24/05/2021 15:58

Not a massive fan of Posie - I just can’t see it on an adult woman - but otherwise great!

FelicityPike · 24/05/2021 15:58

Blythe is a girls name

Anoisagusaris · 24/05/2021 15:59

I like your girl names except for Sage. Boy names are dreadful, Laurence is the best though.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 24/05/2021 16:01

Not Posie, far too twee. Sage is nice as is Lysander.

lakesidelife · 24/05/2021 16:02

I like Laurie/Laurence.

Blythe I've only seen used for girls.

Of your girls names while it is unusual I like Sage.

What names does your husband like?

helpmum2003 · 24/05/2021 16:06

Laurence is the only boys name I like.

Aurelie is my favourite girls choice, unusual but not OTT, pretty and good for a child and adult. . Posie is sweet and I like it but not sure on an adult. Ramona I don't like at all. Sage is OK possibly more of a pet rabbit name?

Serpenta · 24/05/2021 16:08

I'm not into any of your boys' names really.

From your girls list I love Ramona and Sage. Aurelie is unfortunately close to 'orally' so I'd avoid that one.

Standrewsschool · 24/05/2021 16:10

Lawrence and Lysander are lovely. Blythe is a girls name.

Not keen on Sage. Love the other names.

JemimaJoy · 24/05/2021 16:18

Lysander - quite nice but a bit much
Blythe - lovely for a girl but DEFINITELY not unisex!!
Laurence (Laurie for short) - like Laurie but dislike Laurence

For a girl -
Posie - very cute, maybe too cute to see her through life comfortably. Love it, but possibly with Josephine as a full name.
Ramona - Love it! Sassy and strong and cool
Sage - No, too covid
Aurelie - sound like Orally

Leonora? Hermione? Mabel? Clementine?

PineappleWilson · 24/05/2021 16:21

There's an actress called Blythe. She worked on Taggert. I think she got married to Mr. Forrest but refused to change her name because Blythe Forrest sounded like an air freshener. It made me smile at the time but also put me off the name.

Where do you live OP? Not meaning to be rude, but in the spirit of "this name has to live with your child into adulthood", round here a Lysander would struggle. And have his name shortened to Lyce. Sage, in your girls list, is a boy's name to my mind, so I'd suggest Sage or Laurie for a boy, and Ramona or Aurelie for a girl. Ramona stands out as a stronger and more ballsy (American?) name than the others.

JemimaJoy · 24/05/2021 16:22

Tabitha? Romy?

Sorry, keep getting new ideas! Grin

We’re in south east England, not far from London. I love the idea but it’s a bit Jilly Cooper so I see what you mean!!

I get Posie being too cutesy for an adult but didn’t realise Josephine was the longer name which I do love! Sage and Orally 😂 that’s off the list now lol, can’t unsee it!

What names does your husband like?

He likes Octavia for a girl and has extended to Octavian for a boy, neither of which I’m too keen on...his overriding preference for a boy is just too much and incredibly outing as he wanted the name three years ago for our first (thankfully she’s a girl!) and I’ve never heard it as a name for anyone who is not a villain (it’s not Voldemort!)

Notgotanyidea · 24/05/2021 16:45

Laurence and Josephine.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 24/05/2021 17:09

I would have thought Lysander would be shortened to 'Zander' rather than Lyce ?
I'm dying to know your villainous name Grin

ILoveShula · 24/05/2021 17:17

For a boy -
Lysander - too Jilly Cooper
Blythe - I'd think it was a girl. Grim town oop north
Laurence (Laurie for short) - ok but not one I'd pick

For a girl -
Posie - no
Ramona - yes
Sage - too COVID-related
Aurelie - too princessy

Oh go on then, I’ll name change afterwards, this one doesn’t have anything scandalous attached to it 😂 it’s Moriarty...he loved the name from Sherlock Holmes and then heard that it was a rugby players name...I had to point out that it is a LAST name in that case but he’s so stuck on the name 🤦‍♀️
