Opinion on the name Rawdon

I’m very strongly for this name and have loved it ever since I first read Vanity Fair in my teens. I just want to gage reactions before announcing it to family and friends as I’m aware it may sound a little too old-fashioned or even pompous for some (or perhaps I’m overthinking it!)

We would use the nickname Rory, and middle names would be Michael John.

I came on to say it's a place name in West Yorkshire. As a name I don't like it.

I don’t know about Leeds, but my first thought was Crawley. In fact, if I knew a Rawdon in real life, I’d always think of them as Rawdoncrawley.

For all the extraordinary squawking going on here, I knew a Rawdon as a teen and I didn’t bat an eyelid.

Women on here are very conservative, if it’s not Ellie or Ollie they can be very hostile.

I was going to say Vanity Fair! Not the most appealing of characters to name a child after...

I absolutely love it!

Go with Rory, for the sake of your child. Imagine him aged 15 having to deal with the "raw done" sex thing. Grim.

Claricestarling1 · 26/05/2021 16:50

Oh no please don’t 😫

Evasmissingletter · 26/05/2021 17:25

Reminds me of the famous Chinese porn star Rawdong 😃

Wowyouareboring · 26/05/2021 17:27

Of all the names to choose from ...

I know somebody with that name. As I do somebody called Rory (actual name Roderick, one parent wanted Ruairdrigh, the other got them to write it out five times in a row quickly and pointed out that they weren't even certain how to spell it from one line to the next).

Unfortunately for Rawrs, he has never been able to pronounce R sounds. He is eternally grateful that his parents didn't go for the name of the favourite uncle, though, as then he would have been called Brian - when just old enough to be at secondary school as Life of Brian became well known amongst the teenagers. It does sound like he's saying Woowrdun. Or Woors, which is his nickname.

For my part, I'm bloody glad I wasn't called Penelope. With the scale of the stammer I had as a kid, I'd still be trying to tell my Reception teacher who I am.
