Emilia (that spelling) is really lovely.

I don't like Emelia or Amelia.

Amelie only sounds nice if you happen to have a French accent.

RickiTarr · 21/05/2021 00:46

Amelia or maybe Emilia.

Amelie is very French, and became very popular after the film of the same name 20-odd years ago, so might be a bit much, unless you have french connections.

Emelia is an unusual spelling and she will constantly have it spelt wrongly or have to correct people.

I have a best friend called Emelia.. so my vote goes for that!

MySafeSpace · 21/05/2021 01:13

I love Amelie, was on the list for girls (we ended up having a boy)!!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 21/05/2021 01:19

neither, sorry

KaleSlayer · 21/05/2021 01:20

I think Amelie is really lovely.

Emilia is nice but I find I naturally say Amelia and have to try to say the E sound.... maybe that’s just me though.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/05/2021 01:27

Emilia (that spelling) is really lovely.

Otherwise you're mixing pronunciations. Either i is Italian and pronounced ee or it's not. Emelia is either eh-mel-ee-a (yuk) or eh-meh-liah. It's not eh-mee-lee-a which is I think what you're going for.

That was rough phonetically so I may have got that wrong!

helpmebeanadult · 21/05/2021 03:01

Amelie

Geamhradh · 21/05/2021 06:34

Emelia will spend her life saying "no, not Emilia, or Amelia"

If you can get past that, it's much preferable to the ubiquitous Amelie.

NannyR · 21/05/2021 06:41

I love Emilia. Not keen on the Emelia spelling, it looks like you are trying to make a unique name out of Amelia and Emilia - I'm someone who has a normal name spelled slightly differently and having people constant spelling it wrong is a pain.

ILoveStickers · 21/05/2021 07:23

Emilia is great, and I prefer that spelling.

Sorry not keen on any of these names, they all seem a bit too similar to each other and overused. I agree that Amelie sounds so much nicer with a French accent. I’d probably go for Emily though if it was my choice, or something completely different altogether.

ShutUpAlex · 21/05/2021 09:31

I have an Amelie, never had any problems with her name. Her French cousins don’t say her name too differently to how we say it tbh.

LouLikesLollies · 21/05/2021 09:43

Definitely Amelie!

Nonameyet1 · 21/05/2021 09:50

Emilia for me.

This but I add that Emilia will be called Amelia a lot.
HelebethH · 21/05/2021 15:04

If you like French sounding names what about Elodie?

HelebethH · 21/05/2021 15:07

Meant to say it sounds similar to Amelie but don't seem to hear it as often. I know one Elodie and six Amelies.

Normandy144 · 21/05/2021 15:20

I like Emilia - I would not spell it Emelia as it's a hybrid of Amelia and Emilia which will just end up with confused spelling. I much prefer Emilia to Amelia so would go with that.

ILoveShula · 21/05/2021 15:32

The trouble with Elodie is the same as Amelie, they are nice in a French accent but not in a standard UK accent. Elodie becomes yet another El name and Amelie blends in with the Emily, Emilia,, Amelia type names.

SoapboxFox · 21/05/2021 18:26

Emilia is a lovely name.

Amelia or Emilia are both nice (spell them properly though or it will be a real irritation for her.)

Amelie sounds a lot better in a French accent IMO.

Squiggy · 21/05/2021 18:32

Emilia
