I think it's beautiful for a boy.

However, dp thinks it's strange to use a name like that when we've never been to the place?

Thoughts?

It's certainly unusual...

HelloOldSport · 16/05/2021 20:20

Tennessee Williams.

I like it.

userxx · 16/05/2021 20:20

Honestly? It's awful.

Crankley · 16/05/2021 20:21

Really awful.

Anotherhill · 16/05/2021 20:23

It’s hard to spell

newterritory · 16/05/2021 20:24

I know a Tenneson!

Cindie943811A · 16/05/2021 20:33

I see to have read somewhere that it wasn’t Tennessee William’s real name.
It is a bit strange using a place name you don’t have any connection to but then I guess a lot of Children called Paris, Sienna, Dakota etc have parents who have never visited those places.
Your son will be asked many times just why he is called that so you need to give him a convincing reason.

BrutusMcDogface · 16/05/2021 20:35

I agree with your husband...I think a name like that has to have some kind of link.

Everyone would assume he was conceived there!

Cindie943811A · 16/05/2021 20:35

Just remembered that a relation through marriage called her son York when she’d never visited the UK. Just picked it off a map. People just seemed to accept that that was his name. Must be in his 30s now

campion · 16/05/2021 20:35

Tennessee Williams's name was Thomas.

LakeShoreD · 16/05/2021 20:35

I would assume you were a big country music fan. Of course there’s the playwright but I have to confess I think of Nashville before I come to classic 20th century theatre.

StevieNix · 16/05/2021 20:40

Are you from Tennessee? Coz your the only ten I see
Sorry it just makes me think of that terrible chat up line lol

tabulahrasa · 16/05/2021 20:41

Lol, that’s exactly what I was going to post too
HelloOldSport · 16/05/2021 20:56

@campion

Tennessee Williams's name was Thomas.
I know.
partyatthepalace · 16/05/2021 22:01

Well either you have a connection to it, or a passion for Tennessee Williams... but even then it’s a middle name. But with no reason - yes it’s weird.

RuthW · 16/05/2021 22:01

Well I've never been to Florence.

PetuniaPot · 16/05/2021 22:05

Well Jeff Bezos called his son Preston.

PetuniaPot · 16/05/2021 22:06

The spelling difficulty would concern me more tbh.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/05/2021 22:39

Doesn't Reese Witherspoon have a son called Tennessee? Although I like some of the playwrights works, I think I'd probably expect the parents had some sort of connection to the US State instead - plus like pp, I'd worry about spelling outside the US. Cool middle name idea though.

Happycat1212 · 16/05/2021 22:41

I don’t like it

Tillygetsit · 16/05/2021 22:44

What would it shorten to? Tenna?! Nope I'm with your dh.

turnthebiglightoff · 16/05/2021 22:48

Fried chicken.

Synchrony · 16/05/2021 22:56

I wouldn't be particularly surprised by it. I'd assume you were a Tennessee Williams fan.

MercyBodle · 16/05/2021 23:34

I'm not keen on it. I have come across Tennyson as a first name and I like that much more.

BettyUnderswoob · 17/05/2021 09:54

Awful
