I think it's beautiful for a boy.

However, dp thinks it's strange to use a name like that when we've never been to the place?

Thoughts?

Tennessee was Williams' nom de plume. He was actually called Thomas.

If you were from the deep south it would have a point.

In the UK it sounds Essex wannabe American. Dakota, Savannah, Colt, Hunter, Harper etc

Oh, I didn't know it wasn't Tennessee William's real name! That was where I got the idea.

I still like it for a boy though Blush

It's a great name, but yes indeed, not the author's real one.
As an American, I won't lie, I'd find it a bit silly for a Brit (or anyone) with zero connections to the Southern states to name their child Tennessee. I'd steer clear of it unless you really know and love your American history. Just my opinion, which really has little value.

Why does it make me think of bourbon? Is that where Jack Daniels is made and bottled?

TatianaBis · 17/05/2021 18:47

Tennessee whisky is why.

So interested that you’ve posted this OP!

We are also considering Tennessee but for a girl - my husband had an ancestor called Tennessee and she has an extremely cool story, so we’re considering it to pay homage to her.

The issues with spelling etc are holding us back at the moment but it’s still on the cards

Beyond awful.
