Have a lovely 8 month old boy named eric.
Pregnant again hoping for a girl... BUT if its a boy i need an AWESOME name again. And every boy name is not sparking any joy besides ONE...

Pheonix

I KNOW..I KNOW.. Usually id be the FIRST one to be like "oh come on...you cant call a child that"

HOWEVER...Ive become enchanted with the name. Ive even tried considering felix and looking up ALL the names...
Ive even tried sleeping on it... for a MONTH.
And i cant find a name that gives me the same...feeling...as pheonix.

Does anyone have any POSITIVE thoughts on the name? Or advice?

@wtheck

One of my neighbours has a kid called Phoenix - the other is called Storm.

She's a reading hippy though so it's not off the chart for her. Depends what your other kids are called?

Are they both boys? Or one of each?
Diversion · 15/05/2021 23:20

Phoenix is a lovely name !

phodopus · 15/05/2021 23:23

It is unusual but I don't think it would be that out of place at many schools to be honest. But it is a very different name to Eric and people will probably find that more unusual than the name itself.

LaLaLouella · 15/05/2021 23:28

Fairly awful really - I'd also expect it to be a girl saddled with that name...

How about Finn or Cassius?

@MotherOfGodWeeFella

I know a man in his 40s who changed his name to Phoenix-Severus last year. He's a posturing bellend.

I think we could tell from his choice of hyphenated name.

@wildeverose - no less horrible than you telling the pp her husband shouldn't be teacher. It isn't setting them up to fail at all.

Yes I'm the horrible one 😂 Deciding which kids will be naughty based on their list of names, without even meeting them, isn't setting them up to fail? Of course it is! He's already decided a child will be badly behaved, over a name. Of course he shouldn't be a teacher. If the press got hold of that, and his identity he'd have his arse handed to him, and "resign" shortly after. Don't be so ridiculous.
GreyhoundG1rl · 15/05/2021 23:34

Oh, give over. You can't even spell it Hmm

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 15/05/2021 23:42

I don't think it's a good idea to use a name like Phoenix when you have a son called Eric

Either Eric will feel he got the boring old man name or Phoenix will feel he got the weird name. It's just setting them up to feel there's a difference in how you feel about them.

What do you think of Brian?

AyyMacarena · 15/05/2021 23:48

Felix is a name for a cat.

Have it as a middle name and if he likes it, he can use it. But he probably won't but it will be ok because you used it in the middle. 😄

RuthW · 15/05/2021 23:48

Phoenix is a girl's name anywar

PosyBoo · 15/05/2021 23:50

I knew a Phoenix, he was an absolute tinker but exceptionally sweet too. It really suited him. I do agree though it doesn’t really go with Eric. There’s an Eric in my DD7 class and he has a little brother called Wilbur, which I think is lovely. But you have to go with whatever name you love and I’m a big believer in the fact that babies name themselves when they arrive. You’ll know if he’s a little Phoenix when you see him!

Mandalay246 · 15/05/2021 23:51

There is nothing wrong with the name - but please spell it correctly, it's unfair to the child not to.

SusannahSophia · 16/05/2021 00:02

I met a sweet little girl called Phoenix. It was a big name for a shy and retiring child, though.

mabelmint · 16/05/2021 00:16

I know a Phoenix - also had an elder sibling with a more traditional name which makes it feel out of place.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/05/2021 02:16

Nothing positive to say about Phoenix as a first name, sorry - but I think it could be a fun "wacky" middle name. I love Eric though - both Scandi and retro cool.

Names that are similar to Eric imo - Carl, Alfred, Oscar, August, Lars, Magnus. But Felix is great too.

grapewine · 16/05/2021 02:22

I like Phoenix but it seems out of place next to Eric. What about Phillip? Maybe that's too boring though.

ThatIsMyPotato · 16/05/2021 06:39

I think there'll be more Phoenixs and Hopes and things like that due to the coronavirus.

Anyway I like it and think it goes well with Eric now I've said it a few times. It's nice not to have a name theme as they are individuals and Eric is fairly unusual so it's not like you've got an Oliver

RAOK · 16/05/2021 06:56

Arthur goes well with Eric. I was thinking Cassius too.

UpTheJunktion · 16/05/2021 07:09

I like Stanley and Reggie with Eric.

Or maybe other Anglo Saxon type names.

Phoenix is fine, bit ‘child of 90s rock or film star’.

UpTheJunktion · 16/05/2021 07:13

I know several kids and teens and adults called Felix.
And no cats.
Not predominantly a cats name at all.

BitOfAFaff · 16/05/2021 07:21

@Marilla27

You don't think it sounds too much like penis?

Please don't call your son Felix. It is a cat's name. We have three cats around here called that.

What about Evan? Similar to Eric, no?

It's not a cats name 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Whenever 'Luna' is suggested people say it's a dogs name. No it's a human name people decide to call their pets.

We have Daisy the cat doesn't mean Daisy is a cats name!

Bluntness100 · 16/05/2021 07:25

Phoenix sounds nothing like penis. Confused

Hermanfromguesswho · 16/05/2021 07:33

It’s VERY different to Eric.
I’d go for something along the same lines as Eric that aren’t too common such as Douglas, Gregory, Jeremy, Keith?

luciles · 16/05/2021 07:35

God, honestly how long did you have to sit and think about that to try and make a dig. Sounds nothing like penis whatsoever.
nancywhitehead · 16/05/2021 07:36

I think your typo indicates one of the main problems with the name - many people can't spell Phoenix and will get the vowels mixed up.

However other than that there's nothing wrong with it, I think it's quite cool!
