Have a lovely 8 month old boy named eric.
Pregnant again hoping for a girl... BUT if its a boy i need an AWESOME name again. And every boy name is not sparking any joy besides ONE...

Pheonix

I KNOW..I KNOW.. Usually id be the FIRST one to be like "oh come on...you cant call a child that"

HOWEVER...Ive become enchanted with the name. Ive even tried considering felix and looking up ALL the names...
Ive even tried sleeping on it... for a MONTH.
And i cant find a name that gives me the same...feeling...as pheonix.

Does anyone have any POSITIVE thoughts on the name? Or advice?

@CliftonGreenYork

Husband is a teacher and says when they get the list of new pupils joining the school, they can tell who will be trouble - Phoenix would def be on that list.
Your husband shouldn't be a teacher. What a horrible thing to say. Setting children up to fail over a name? He's in the wrong job.
BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 15/05/2021 22:22

I know a man in his 40s who changed his name to Phoenix-Severus last year. He's a posturing bellend.

Phoenix really, really isn't a great name. Felix has a very similar sound, would that be an option? Eric and Felix works far better than Eric and Phoenix.

Hyacinth88 · 15/05/2021 22:22

If you like it. Use it
I know a phoenix lovely little boy.
What about Griffin

lucie8881 · 15/05/2021 22:22

A friend of mine has named her son Phoenix, so it doesn't sound that "out there" to my ears. If you like it, go for it!

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 15/05/2021 22:27

I think we could tell from his choice of hyphenated name.

@wildeverose - no less horrible than you telling the pp her husband shouldn't be teacher. It isn't setting them up to fail at all.

wtheck · 15/05/2021 22:29

One of my neighbours has a kid called Phoenix - the other is called Storm.

She's a reading hippy though so it's not off the chart for her. Depends what your other kids are called?

Not reading Grin

Your husband is a bellend and you can't trust yourself to spell definitely correctly.

Mangofandangoo · 15/05/2021 22:34

I actually know a Phoenix and I think her name is lovely - she's 11

scrivette · 15/05/2021 22:35

The name is fine (although I would assume it's a girl) but I am not sure it goes with Eric.

Equimum · 15/05/2021 22:40

We know of two little boys called Phoenix. The one we know best is a school friend of our son, and is an absolutely normal, polite, well behaved 8 year old. To be honest, I never really thought of it as being particularly unusual or out there. His parents aren’t particularly edgy or unusual. If you love it, use it.

Aquagirl19 · 15/05/2021 22:40

Not keen on Phoenix, but then I think Eric is pretty horrendous too....

momtoboys · 15/05/2021 22:41

@MsMcGonagall

What about Finn. Sort of has the same sound as the first syllable.
I have a son named Finn. I love it.
carolcarolcarrot · 15/05/2021 22:41

It's a lovely name.

Misssweetheart · 15/05/2021 22:44

Wow... erm ta?
I love my son and i love his name. Its not horrendous to me. X

I have a family member named Phoenix - love it and suits him!

PennyinmyPocket · 15/05/2021 22:49

You can call you DC whatever you want OP. You don’t need approval from MN.

You like Phoenix. Go for it! I know two. They are lovely.

Congratulations! 🥂🍾🎉

DotsandCo · 15/05/2021 22:53

Eric is a fabulous name...strong and enduring. Phoenix...more of a trendy name, not so strong and won't endure I don't thing. Nothing wrong with it though...it's a nice enough name! Just doesn't vibe with Eric 🤷‍♀️

Maybe try names like Arthur, George or other more traditional names, to get that same sense of timeless strength that Eric has.

DotsandCo · 15/05/2021 22:54
  • think, not thing 🤦‍♀️
Misssweetheart · 15/05/2021 22:56

Husband Looooves ARTHUR. I like it but i feel no...spark.....
Fingers crossed i fall in love with a more normal name. Im really trying... xx

It’s not crazy, it’s getting seriously popular. I know three under two. If you live in a Phoenix sort of area (South London) then he’ll be unlikely to be the only one in his class

elizabethdraper · 15/05/2021 23:00

Didn't ladbaby call of his Phoenix?

Not really sure why people want to call their kid after Europe's biggest urban park but there you go. Must to some to do with the deer or their love for Mickle`D

MsTSwift · 15/05/2021 23:00

Too big a risk. He might be a quiet bookish sort. I came up with some shocking names for dd1 now 14 when pregnant when I tell her them I get 🙄🙄 dear god mum thank god you saw sense!

RogerJamjet · 15/05/2021 23:04

Thank goodness someone has the sense to find out what a man says. It's a relief to us all I imagine. 🙄

LucyFox · 15/05/2021 23:07

I know of 2 Phoenix’s, both girls & both now aged around 11
It’s not a bad name, but will be perceived as quite “trendy” .
I agree that Felix is worth considering too
