For a girl. Tell me your honest thoughts please, I am bracing myself!

No!!

Mydarlingmyhamburger · 13/05/2021 16:08

NO

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 13/05/2021 16:09

I love it.

Unfortunately, DH vetoed it.

Claire4567 · 13/05/2021 16:09

I can see where you're coming from, but no.

How about Hera? The Greek goddess?

lakesidelife · 13/05/2021 16:10

I like it quite a lot.
But it isn't an easy choice.

Delphigirl · 13/05/2021 16:10

Love it. But I am a georgette heyer fan..!

CrackersDontMatter · 13/05/2021 16:11

Love it

MrsWooster · 13/05/2021 16:11

Love it. Georgette Heyer fan here

Bilingualspingual · 13/05/2021 16:11

I love it

flashylamp · 13/05/2021 16:12

Big name to wear.

Theblackdogagain · 13/05/2021 16:12

It's the name of a female is much ado about nothing, confused my 15 year old class all year! It's lovely but brave!

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 13/05/2021 16:12

I’ve always liked it but just couldn’t be bothered with all the comments you know are going to come. Can you?
I love Santa too but same reasons

PineappleWilson · 13/05/2021 16:13

Are you holding out for a Hero? Grin

You may need to be a poster of a certain age for that one. I could manage Piper and Sailor, but no, not Hero. Sorry your DD woun'd thank you. Might work for a boy as a middle name

Auxence · 13/05/2021 16:15

I absolutely love it but I haven’t decided if I’m ready for all the comments yet... or if she would be. Don’t like Hera nearly as much, weirdly.

Do you think it’s widely known to be Classical/Shakespearean or do you think most people would assume she was named after the English word?

I'm also a Heyer fan thinking about it.

The problem you are going to have is that a fair few people aren't going to realize it is a girls name.

They are going to think it is a variation of Hiro.

lakesidelife · 13/05/2021 16:17

But I'm not sure other people's lack of education should prevent you choosing a name you love.

ClarrieGrundy · 13/05/2021 16:17

Most people will assume that she is named after the English word.

So, unless you are raising her in a rarified bubble (or an Oxbridge College) she will have the piss mercilessly taken out of her.

it's a bloody awful idea

Monkeytapper · 13/05/2021 16:18

Myleene Klass daughter is called Hero

bridgetreilly · 13/05/2021 16:20

I like it.

But most people won't know the references.

Kotatsu · 13/05/2021 16:21

I love it. And I would instantly think of Much Ado About Nothing (I must admit, not the play, but the movie version... with Keanu Reeves..)

imanorangemoon · 13/05/2021 16:22

I wouldn't. What if they fail to save someone in the future "Pft, what a hero you are Hero "

Twinkie01 · 13/05/2021 16:23

Love it but I have to admit Bonnie Tyler is screeching in the far reaches of my brain as soon as I hear it.

Orphlids · 13/05/2021 16:29

I love it, and our DD2 was nearly a Hero. I’d like to think most people would immediately think of the Greek myth, or Shakespeare, but unfortunately, there are more people who won’t know of either of those. We told a few people we were thinking of using the name Hero, and they looked absolutely baffled. Most of them thought it was a boys’ name. I’m sure some of them thought we’d got it from Big Hero 6, that Disney film. We chose another name in the end, but not because of people’s reactions. This name leaves people similarly baffled, but I use their reactions as a useful tool to discover who has ever read a book in their lives.

The name Hero itself is so lovely and pretty in its simplicity. That unusual ‘o’ at the end is so nice. I’d be excited to meet a little Hero. I think you should go for it!

Stevearnottsbeard · 13/05/2021 16:29

I know it's from Shakespeare but I don't like it as a name I'm sorry, but I'm sure myleen klass named one of her daughters Hero

SallySycamore · 13/05/2021 16:37

I'd think you were a big Shakespeare fan. I think this book would put me off a bit though (it has a character called Hero who gets teased about her name).
