Vowel Name Crisis

IsabellaMarie · 10/05/2021 23:02

Hi everyone! I’m not the usual participate in these forums, I’m not a mom/mom to be, & I’m actually 15! I’m helping on the name search for my little cousin to be & we’re a bit lost with boy names.

The name needs to be a vowel, not blatantly biblical (Adam, Elijah etc.), nothing extremely common/popular (Oliver/Asher), but also not too out there an usual (Atticus/Apollo), it also has to flow nicely with Isabella, Isaac, & Autumn, and bonus points if it has any nature ties to it!

Back story:
So there are 4 cousins in my family, me (Isabella), My little cousin Isaac, his little sister Autumn, and their Half sibling to be. All our names go nicely together and have a bit of a theme. If it’s a girl DM is set on naming her Rosalie Grace, which I’m not super thrilled about because it’s not a vowel (I was rooting for Ivy Rose). But if it’s a boy and we can find a good vowel name, we can keep the theme.

DM is keen on Aslan, Everest, & Oakley.
Where as DD want something a little simpler like Abel, Eli, Ethan etc.

So far the top contenders are:
Isaac, Autumn & Elliot
Isaac, Autumn & Oakley
Isaac, Autumn & Aslan
Or Isaac, Autumn & Everest
But nobody is really happy with any of those names.....
Please help Mumsnet Moms!!!!

P.S any middle name suggestions would also be appreciated! Smile

Those are really good names The only thing is we know a lot of Ethan‘s Alexander’s and Ian’s. Orion is too similar to names like Apollo and not to sure about the nickname Ryan. Thank you so much for your suggestions!!!!

I know an Oakley. It's a nice name.

Elon means oak tree apparently. Also topical...

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/05/2021 23:43

It's nice that your Aunt wants your help. But you probably don't want to hear this but imo Rosalie is a lovely choice of your Aunts - I can understand why she is less keen on Ivy as it's quite trendy at the moment, perhaps Iris instead? I think Elliot and Oakley are nice choices for boys too.

I'm not sure about the other boys options - I'd be concerned Aslan would get lion jokes, and what if Everest is on the larger side? Perhaps Everett instead?

Are you in the US? Not sure what is popular there and so many well known names are biblical, they are hard to avoid. Here's a mixed bag:

Oren (means palm tree)
Alder (tree)
Acer (tree/scrub)
Ivo (means yew wood)
Alden
Oscar
Owen
Eric
Evan
Arthur
Ivan
Edward
Edgar
Edwin

So far I haven’t seen any names that haven’t been vetoed. But thank you guys for all of the awesome suggestions!!!! Smile

Shrub, not scrub!

MojoJojo71 · 10/05/2021 23:49

I love Edison

IsabellaMarie · 10/05/2021 23:58

Oh I definitely agree Rosalie is beautiful, just a little bummed it’s not a vowel, but I’m very excited to be helping with the name!

We are in the US and basically all the names we were thinking of are biblical. And almost all of the names on your list are already taken by family/friends.

I agree Aslan and Everest might be easy to make fun and Aslan would probably be miss pronounced a lot. names. Because she liked Everest I suggested Everett as well, but my family knows Everett’s.

I personally think so many of the names that have been suggested are beautiful, but we have so many people with different name tastes to please! 😂
