Every time I see a thread for girl name suggestions bloody Ottilee is always on there so many times.

We have a Henry but haven’t met another at his school , there must be pockets of them somewhere though going by this thread

All names. That's what trying to choose a baby name did to me. I can't remember the last time I came across a name I thought was interesting. They all turned bland to me lol

I genuinely have never been "bored" of a name - I've worked with young people for almost 20 years and honestly don't understand the stress parents have about names! I form opinions based on the child rather than their name, personality is unique regardless of a name!

My DS' name had a sudden wave the year he was born so he was one of 4 in his class which he thought was cool, now he's a teen and they're more spread out they barely cross paths and the popularity has died down but it's still used.

My Dd's name is less used but not unknown - we didn't choose either for any reason other than we loved them at the time. Never occurred to me to see what other people were doing 🤷‍♀️

What lovely names no wonder they are popular, some of these I have never even heard Arlo for example. I agree with those who said no name is boring or bland or horrible and it's a bit mean and silly to say you are sick of hearing it people choose names for many reasons some of them quite personal and if you have nothing better to do than judge criticise and bitch because you know 6 jacks and it's so unoriginal and they should have thought of something far better well then I think you need to get out more

Stopping - for me it’s not that names are unoriginal - it’s that the parents think they are being Uber original, but only following inadvertently the latest fad instead.

And these also tend to be the parents that would roll their eyes at common but lovely names like Emma or Henry.

I have a sin with a name featured here. Didn’t realise how popular it was when we chose it, but ultimately he is named after a family member - the most kind and brave man. So we couldn’t care less if there are hundreds of namesakes running around because our son’s name means so much to us.

Obviously I have son, not a sin!

The first Arlo I came across was Arlo Guthrie (singer).

Never another until the current fashion for the name.

Sometimes it is refreshing to not hear so many children with the same names, but not so good when they are names that are cobbled together to make something 'unusual' that will give the child a hard time.

So many....Arlo, Teddy, Theodore, Leo.
Ophelia, Elsie, Lilly.

My son was one of 4 in his Reception class. It never bothered me one iota. I love the name and love the sound of it, so all good to me. I thought, rather than it being common, that the other parents had great taste.

I remember going to his school one day to take him out of class for his injection and strangely all 4 mothers turned up at the same time. The Reception teacher shouted, Dominic A, Dominic G, Dominic L and Dominic N. I remember we all laughed. I didn't find it annoying at all.

The names on these lists are lovely, probably why they are so popular!

I think picking a name for a child can be a minefield ... which is why I passed that job to my parents “Ma, Da, I’m in the family way, be a sport and pick the name eh?”

I live in the South East and my DD is year 4 and i know many children with these name but I don’t know many multiples. I know two Olivia’s for example. Two Freya’s ( different ages) but not hundreds. Unless you teach who even knows hundreds of kids? ( the child catcher??)

Until they become super fashionable and everyone uses them...... they then unfortunately fall out of fashion, start to sound dated and become boring through overuse.

Some names never fall out of fashion.

William, Jack, Harry, James etc.

Could work for an old man or a new baby.

I would much rather opt for a timeless name that I liked then make one up just to be different.

I do feel that Jack and Harry will start to sound a little dated as they've been SO popular recently. Like Steve and Mike in the 70s!

Even classic names follow fashion cycles.
