For boys - Alfie, Archie and similar. O endings - Theo, Leo, Hugo, Arlo. Edward, William, James, George. I love Oscar and would still consider it despite its ubiquity. Difficult with boys, the classics are lovely but just overdone to death.

I'm more bored of threads created to ensure someone's child has a cool/unusual/wacky enough name, by asking quite an unkind or patronising question about which names are too common/boring etc

Just choose a name you like. Does it need to be rare or meet the approval of total strangers on the internet?

Ha I have a Noah and I'm a teacher (same age children as mine)... I have NEVER taught a Noah and he's the only one in his year!

My littlest has what I thought was a much less common name but we know about 6 others! I'm always hearing it out and about too!

So it just depends on area!

Mammyloveswine · 03/05/2021 13:37

Noah has featured heavily on this thread 😂 I still love it so much though!

2tired2bewitty · 03/05/2021 13:39

There was a period recently when every new baby girl I knew was called Isobel or one of its variants.

dementedma · 03/05/2021 13:40

Never met an Arlo in my life. am in Scotland. Maybe it’s more common in England?

Whatshouldicallme · 03/05/2021 13:42

Surprised to see Isla here. It was my girl's choice for DS16 and was quite unusual outside of Scotland then (I'm Scottish and it is an island, so that's why it's always been popular here: see also Skye/ Harris). Interesting that it's become so popular elsewhere. I have 3 boys and their names are very Scottish, therefore not terribly common.

@Littlefluffyclouds13
It isnt wrong for a parent to want something more individual for their child. Unusual doesn’t have to be “wacky.”
I’ve never met anyone with the same name as me. I like that fact. I wouldn’t have liked 5 other girls in my class sharing my name.

Violetlavenders · 03/05/2021 15:08

Just choose a name you like.

Surely parents should try a little harder to find an interesting memorable name for their children!

Lyricallie · 03/05/2021 15:29

Jayden, Kayden, Layden all the dens (have two in my family alone!) I'm in Scotland and it's so so common. Also Isla which is a shame because I like it haha.

IndiaMay · 03/05/2021 15:49

Agree Isla and Freya as well! So popular!
Arthur, Teddy, Archie, Alfie etc.

I always feel sorry for babies with really common names. It just sounds like their parents couldnt be arsed to think of a name so just chose what everyone else is called. I never know what to say when the 3rd person in the office announces 'baby Amelia'. Like "oh...nice".

Plus destined to be 'Freya J' etc. Throughout all of school to distinguish between the 3 other Freyas in the class.

Someone I sit with at work has an Izzy and when talks about her OWN DAUGHTER she genuinely calls her 'Izzy P' so I dont get confused with Izzy L and Izzy H, her daughters 2 best friends.

Just because a name isnt in the top 10 it doesnt make it 'wacky' and even if it is wacky, at least its interesting

Bluesername · 03/05/2021 15:53

I have always loved Emilia but have never liked Amelia. To me they sound really different, Amelia is overused where I am.
