Hi -simple question - if you heard the name Dara would you think it was a boy or girl? It may help if you said whether you were in the UK (I am). Thanks for your time x

Agree totally with a PP about Dara O'Briain and how people say his, I wonder does he pronounce it like that or is it just other people?

It's just other people, he says it the Irish way. I guess you'd need to be ok with the different pronunciations if you choose Dara.

YouDoIDo · 30/04/2021 13:03

I would say girl UK my Irish born husband says Boy.

YouDoIDo · 30/04/2021 13:04

I think the girl version would be spelt different though.

Anibas · 02/05/2021 18:32

I've only ever heard of Dara O'Brien, but think it's quite a unisex name, so could work for both.

ivykaty44 · 02/05/2021 18:33

male
uk
worked with a Dara who was male

MissMarks · 02/05/2021 18:36

Boy. Ireland

MangosteenSoda · 02/05/2021 18:38

If heard it spoken, rhyming with Tara, I would assume girl. Pronounced Darra, I’d assume boy.

Written down, unisex. But my initial feeling would be girl. (UK)

savanahnana · 02/05/2021 20:09

I would automatically think girl but a friend of a friend has a toddler boy named Dara

savanahnana · 02/05/2021 20:10

Just to add they are Irish but live in the UK

bedtimeshoes · 02/05/2021 20:24

Girl. England

yellowthursday · 02/05/2021 20:43

Loving this thread OP! I'm Irish living in the UK and considering Dara if baby turns out to be a boy. That's my preferred spelling too. Grin

RichPetunia · 02/05/2021 21:03

Boy, Uk
