Is this name still hated on MN?
Do you associate it as old man trend or just too popular?
Please help me decide, my other half loves it as it is an old family name

I don’t hate it... I have a friend with a five year old called Archie, people seem to like his name.

He now likes to tell people the Prince borrowed his name Grin

There’s going to be people who like or hate any name, but there’s nothing inherently awful about Archie.

Iamstrugglingtopick · 25/04/2021 15:13

I actually quite like it myself it just always seems to be a name that gets a bad reaction on here

Well, I dislike both 'old man' names and cutesy names so it's always a big no from me.

PegPeople · 25/04/2021 15:17

I don't dislike it but it's grown in popularity swiftly it's absolutely everywhere where I live. I'm honestly not exaggerating when I say almost every little boy we meet at the park is called Archie, Alfie, Arlo or Albie.

EileenGC · 25/04/2021 15:19

I like it. I wouldn’t choose or discard a name based on what Mumsnet thinks of it. Unless you’re called Emily, Charlotte, Arthur or Thomas, you’ll be saddling your child with an awful name, for life. And it better have several nicknames and one of the above as middle names so the kid has options! Archie is nice, don’t sweat it.

Violetlavenders · 25/04/2021 15:21

I dislike it very much.

The Arch sound isn't nice and the -ie ending is so cutesy.

Archibald is ugly too imo.

Iamstrugglingtopick · 25/04/2021 15:24

Thank you. It is not popular around me saying that thought surely names become popular because people think they are nice?

I like it 😊 I think it’s definitely got much more popular since Meghan and Harry used it. Alfie is also lovely

Violetlavenders · 25/04/2021 15:31

Personally I don't like Alfie of Archie.

Tbortb · 25/04/2021 15:31

I love it! If you like it, go for it.

Beetlewing · 25/04/2021 15:40

I don't like it. I was a bit whoa when Harry and Meghan chose it for their firstborn

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 25/04/2021 15:50

It's lovely, for a pet.

purplecorkheart · 25/04/2021 15:53

It would not be my choice but do not dislike it.

SelfMadeFantasist · 25/04/2021 16:12

I don’t like it at all. I dislike names that sound cutesy, I dislike old man names, and I just don’t like the way it sounds ... but why would you care what a random stranger thinks? All that counts is what you and your DP like.

OneKeyAtATime · 25/04/2021 16:19

I am not keen I am afraid

INeedtobealone · 25/04/2021 16:26

I don't like it or any other nickname type names, Alfie, Reggie, Ronnie, Albie etc.

Archie as a diminutive so say Archibald is ok p, I wouldn't pick it, but not on its own.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 25/04/2021 16:27

It’s a lovely name. Old men are not suddenly called Archie they were babies once I find it odd that this is mentioned a lot on MN for boys names but not girls so much. Anyway you get to choose the name you love.

mn81987 · 25/04/2021 16:33

Oh god think of something more original! Every other child is called Archie or Alfie

FizzyApricot · 25/04/2021 16:45

I like it but as a PP said there are loads of A names for boys being used around my neck of the woods so its nice to have something else.

19thNamechange · 25/04/2021 16:46

I like it.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 25/04/2021 16:49

I know an Archer who is known as Archie - definitely nicer than Archibald!

Amdone123 · 25/04/2021 16:49

I don't like it, not because of its popularity but it's harsh sounding to me.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 25/04/2021 16:58

Hate it sorry

GintyMcGinty · 25/04/2021 16:59

Meh - it screams Harry and Meghan.

Sorry

ElderMillennial · 25/04/2021 16:59

I like it but I think it's very popular right now.
