Is this name still hated on MN?
Do you associate it as old man trend or just too popular?
Please help me decide, my other half loves it as it is an old family name

It didn’t even cross my mind about Harry and Meghan to be honest but I do not follow the royal family so that would not put me off. Just wondered why it was so disliked

@Iamstrugglingtopick I love the name Archie. Great name and falling in popularity if you look at the official statistics (the below graph uses the ONS official numbers). I've actually never met an Archie but think I've heard it shouted in the park before. Wouldn't make me think of Harry or Royalty. Neither would Louis, Charlotte or George.

It's been done to death but there's nothing wrong with it. I find the name a bit twee but that's me. If you love it go for it.

A lot of people will say that they’ve heard it more since Meghan and Harry used it, but the name actually dropped in popularity in 2019; the year their son was born. We’ll have to wait and see what happened in 2020.

Personally I’m not a huge fan of the nickname as a full name, but I concede that the full names for Archie aren’t great. That being said, my view is personal taste, and I don’t think it will hurt someone to be called Archie. The most popular names include Archie, Alfie, Freddie, Charlie. Indeed the fastest rising boys name last year was Tommy. In general Mumsnet users don’t like these names, so you won’t get a warm reception here, but they are very popular so I’d take the warnings that you child will go nowhere in life without a Sunday name with a pinch of salt.

I know an Archer who is known as Archie - definitely nicer than Archibald!

I think Archie's often disliked on here because it's super trendy - it hits the double whammy of the cute nickname as given name trend (usually ending in "ee" sounds - Tommy, Freddie, Charlie, Teddy etc) as well as the vintage/retro trend (Alfred, Wilfred, Stanley, Sidney etc).

Trendy names risk dating and eventually becoming downmarket (despite Royal usage!) but if you really love the name it shouldn't matter - and clearly by it's chart position lots of people love Archie.

I love it! It's also quite popular which means lots of people love it too.
