Really love Thea for our DD due in August but have read on here that it's become a bit trendy at the moment.

Could anyone suggest any similar names? Smile I also love Willa but it sounds a bit daft with our surname.

Thanks!

We loved the name Thea. Unfortunately I've got Greek relatives and my father is half Greek and Thea means Aunt. So nobody was keen. We chose Caylee instead and Morgan as a 2nd name. Both family and strangers have complimented our choice and and it really does suit her more than Thea would have. Its very unique especially spelt this way but we love it. Pic of my Caylee - she's 15 months.

Why does it matter if it's "trendy" op? Go for it if you love the name 🤷‍♀️

TempsPerdu · 15/04/2021 18:49

Gaia? Vita? Calla?

All less common than Thea but have a similar sound and feel. Or Cora - another short, -a ending name of Greek origin? Also like pp’s suggestion of Tessa.

mogtheexcellent · 15/04/2021 18:51

Theano - easy to spell and nowhere near as popular.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/04/2021 20:00

Love Theia ("Thay -ah") - same meaning as Thea but less trendy. Or ancient Greek Thalia is lovely too.

Agree with pp's that Greek Lara, Gaia and Cora also have a similar feel to Thea.

Or if you like the "ee- ah" sound - Nia, Zia or Leah. Or maybe Cassia or Celia?

stellarfox · 15/04/2021 20:05

I don’t think it’s that popular. Use it if you love it!

Outing but we have a Thea-to-her-friends, longer name at home. She is 6.5 and I've never met another nor heard the name brought up IRL. May depend where you live, I guess, but don't think it's that popular.

You could also go for a less popular name that can be nicknamed, e.g. Althea, Dorothea or even Theodora.

But honestly, just use it! It is really like Olivia or Ava.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 15/04/2021 20:25

*really NOT

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 15/04/2021 20:28

I believe Theo is really popular but I've only met one or two Theas. It's so lovely, if you like it why not go for it?

Leah is also nice, Cora, Vita, Sia? I absolutely love Tessa/Tessie which i think is long overdue a comeback.
