Clara

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/04/2021 09:11

The only one I like is Riley.

Arrierttyclock · 11/04/2021 09:20

Astrid- I really like this but would worry about kids just using the Ass part
Felicity- I like this with the NN Fliss
Imogen- love
Alexandra- not sure on it for a girl but love for a boy
Libby- not that keen
Clara- lovely name
Riley- reallt don't like this name
Xanthe- love it and it's on my list I'm just worried about Zante mispronunciation

Synchrony · 11/04/2021 09:40

I really like Astrid, Felicity, Imogen and Alexandra.
Xanthe and Clara are ok.
I dislike Riley and Libby.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 11/04/2021 10:09

I know a few Felicitys and none go by Flick (the only Flick I’ve ever heard of is Flick Scully!). I think it’s not such an obvious nickname that you need to worry about everyone will automatically use it, like Sam for Samantha or something.

KirstenBlest · 11/04/2021 16:37

Astrid - nice but increasing in popularity
Felicity - too long and prissy
Imogen - nice but don't like Immy
Alexandra - too long but nice. Alex, Sasha and Sandy all ok.
Libby - prefer Lizzie
Clara - dislike
Riley- dislike
Xanthe - ok

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 11/04/2021 21:28

Love, love, love Alexandra. (Alex and Lexi both lovely nn too.)

Starlight39 · 11/04/2021 21:33

I like all of them except Riley. I’d use Elizabeth or Liberty as full name for Libby. For Alexandra, I’d think about nick names - personally I’m not keen on Alex for a girl but that’s what it would default to if no nickname (as happened to a friend, she just had to put up with Alex at various work places!).

TempsPerdu · 11/04/2021 22:07

Agree that Riley stands out like a sore thumb among the other names.

Astrid - can’t decide on this - nice meaning and I should love it as Scandi names are exactly my style, but can’t get fully on board with the -id ending.
Felicity - nope, too horsey/jolly hockey sticks

Imogen - OK, don’t like Immy
Alexandra - nice and elegant but a bit ‘much’ for me - prefer shorter names
Libby - too nicknamey and insubstantial. Liberty better
Clara - nice
Riley - don’t like at all

Xanthe - lovely but possibly a little pretentious?

Think I’d shortlist Astrid, Clara, Xanthe and maybe Alexandra and dump the rest.

 1. Libby
 2. Clara
 3. Astrid
 4. Imogen
 5. Felicity

 8. Xanthe
YoniAndGuy · 12/04/2021 14:23

The only really ugly one is Riley. Sorry OP your judgment is clouded here - it's really downmarket and just not nice at all. Libby is also a bit grim!

Xanthe would be my choice

then Astrid.

I've never been a fan of Imogen, Clara, Felicity - though all good names, nothing wrong with them.

Alexandra's lovely, but I don't like Alex on a girl.

WildCherryBlossom · 12/04/2021 17:18

Riley sounds like a boy's name or a surname to me.

Libby, short for Elizabeth.

Alexandra and Felicity are fine I just don't get excited about them.

I really love Imogen, Clara and Astrid although they seem to be iquite distinct in style. Imogen is classic, Shakespearean and English. Astrid is quirky Scandi chic. Clara, well Heidi's best friend springs to mind so I'm picturing the Alps.

HotTomatoes · 12/04/2021 17:29

Love Felicity, Alexandra (my fave) and Imogen.

Really don’t like Riley, Astrid or Xanthe.

schoolsoutforever · 12/04/2021 20:09

Astrid is my daughter’s name. She gets lots of compliments on it. Unusual but not ridiculous, strong but still feminine, nice meaning. Well of course I would say that but still. I also like Xanthe (taught a couple of them) and Alexandra. Felicity has a lovely meaning. Riley is a no from me.

Change45 · 12/04/2021 21:21

Wow loving all the love for Clara. I have a preschooler called Clara and never met another one and hadn’t really come across it much before we picked it. Didn’t realise it was becoming popular.Smile That’s obviously my fave from your list!

DispensingShitAdviceSince2002 · 12/04/2021 21:23
@Horridcreature not the Riley for my inspo though, maybe time to veto Riley Grin
I've only ever met boys named Riley.
Libby is a nickname,it looks like a shortening.
Xanthe is lovely andAstrid is too.
