We have decided on Euan.

I like more classic boys names (think Tom, Ben) and DH likes more popular ones (think Alfie, Riley). We also have Scottish roots but are living in England so the criteria was:

-Something we both like
-Something not too popular but not too 'boring' (as DH would call my choices)
-Something short to go with our long complex surname

  • Ideally something Scottish but this one is not essential

I do like the name and I wonder if its just last minute hormonal pondering that is making me question it! So any opinions or other suggestions welcome.

I love it!

Spied · 30/03/2021 13:16

I prefer the similar Evan and Owen but Euan is nice and a little different.

HenDo999 · 30/03/2021 13:30

I really like Euan and would be on my hypothetical list.

It’s not too out there, it’s classic but also not popular or ‘boring’.

sonicshoegazes · 30/03/2021 13:32

I love it. My 15 yr old is Ewan but I adore that spelling too. It's a warriors name and perfect.

shipsandgiggles · 30/03/2021 13:32

My DH is a Ewan, he gets lots of compliments on his name. I think it’s lovely, I’d always considered the name before I met DH

toastofthetown · 30/03/2021 13:37

Why don’t you wait and see how you feel when he is born? See if calling him Euan feels right when he’s actually here.

PoppityPop · 30/03/2021 13:38

I like Euan too, though I also prefer the Ewan spelling.

Biscuitsneeded · 30/03/2021 13:40

You'll know when you meet him if he's a Euan. If not, how about:

Findlay
Fraser
Gregor
Rory
Lewis
Harris
James

Shosha1 · 30/03/2021 13:44

Love Fergus and Gregor, really wanted to call DS2 one of these.

LadyCatStark · 30/03/2021 13:46

It sounds perfect!

17caterpillars1mouse · 30/03/2021 13:48

Euan is a lovely, handsome name which we considered (though prefer the spelling Ewan) but we had girls.

It's a traditional name but not as well used, others that fit that could be Christopher (Kit to give it a more trendy feel for dh), Dominic, Nicholas, Calvin.

Ellis might suit you both two?

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 30/03/2021 13:48

I dont like Euan but that's just me.

Like James or Fraser

FelicityPike · 30/03/2021 13:49

I like Euan spelled that way.

fastingnewby · 30/03/2021 13:51

Struan?
Murray
Angus
Callum
Cameron
Campbell

MissyB1 · 30/03/2021 13:55

It’s lovely! I also like Murray.

Flymetothestars · 30/03/2021 14:09

Great choice!

dcb2 · 30/03/2021 14:32

My friend had a Ewan while living in Singapore. Apparently he was called Ee-wahn by most of the non ex-pats. Made me smile and think of an ewok.

Koolandorthegang · 30/03/2021 14:35

Have you imagined yourself shouting it in a playground? That’s how I figure out whether I like a name or not.

I love Euan and the spelling is great too.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 30/03/2021 14:35

I also prefer similar Evan and Owen, as I'm less keen on the "u" sound in Euan but I understand with Scots roots why you'd pick it. It's a perfectly fine name, although my favourite Scots boys names are James, Alistair/Alasdair, Fraser and Laith personally.

dropthedeadhorse · 30/03/2021 14:37

Ok these answers are making me feel better about the choice. Thanks 😊

Love the association with ewoks! Cute!

I like Alastair and Fraser too but DH does not!

@Koolandorthegang I do this too!! This is how I discounted Nina as a name for my dog (I think shouting it over and over would be too much like a siren ‘nee-naa, nee-naa, nee-naa’ Grin)

bonfireheart · 30/03/2021 14:41

Like it, and anyone ever met with that name has been lovely (and coincidentally handsome!)

joystir59 · 30/03/2021 14:43

Euan is quite simply, beautiful.

Koolandorthegang · 30/03/2021 14:44

@dropthedeadhorse it’s the only way to know if you truly love a name Grin

Rememberfluffthecat · 30/03/2021 14:46

I have a Ewan. Love it
