Any opinions on Astrid? Or suggestions of similar names I might love?

So far Astrid is the only name I've come up with so far that ticks all of our boxes - I love it, my husband likes it, most people have heard of it but it's not overused, it's not complicated to spell or pronounce, and goes well with our (strong and simple but very uncommon, two-syllable) last name.

I'm worried I'm not 'cool' enough to have a baby Astrid, though, so I'd love to hear any general opinions on the name. Pregnancy has me doubting everything and decisions just feel very daunting at this point.

I love Astrid. Beautiful name. Also like Stella, Nancy, Wren

Astrid is great.
Ingrid sounds similar.
I was also going to suggest Stella/Estelle as above.
Margot?

I love the name Astrid. I wanted it for DD2 but DH talked me out of it as our surname starts with a D and the sounds would merge. We went for Aurora instead but as names go I still prefer Astrid!

housecoat1968 · 22/03/2021 23:09

It's lovely.
I also currently love Vivienne and Rowan.

Ohyesiam · 22/03/2021 23:13

Gorgeous name.
I know twins, Astrid and Violet, they are 16, stunning and self possessed. All the boys are crazy about them but terrified!

scrivette · 22/03/2021 23:14

I love the name Astrid, there is one at DD's nursery.

Other similar names could be Ingrid or Sabine, but Astrid is a great name!

Love the name Astrid.
Also Estelle and Celeste.

MonkeyPuddle · 22/03/2021 23:21

Always reminds me of The Office.

dootsnoot · 22/03/2021 23:28

I really appreciate the responses. Thank you all. It's nice to hear positivity for the name - I feel more indecisive and less confident than ever, my husband is very (too) easy-going with names and I haven't sought opinions from any other family or friends yet.

Vivienne is absolutely beautiful, but I think it might feel slightly formal for me. Violet is 10/10 but I already know quite a few. Rowan is one I hadn't considered but like a lot. Ingrid is lovely and classic, but I think I do prefer Astrid a bit. Stella/Estelle are both names I love but perhaps not for me this time. Sabine was a favourite of mine a few years ago that I'd forgotten in recent years - what a wonderful reminder!

Beautiful name Op

@MonkeyPuddle

Always reminds me of The Office.
I'd forgotten about this Grin. Now I'll forever be wondering if that's where my interest in the name comes from.

If you like Sabine how about Sylvie/Sylvia?

PandaFluff · 23/03/2021 06:37

If you love Astrid I'd use it. I don't think you have to be "cool" to use it.

ILoveStickers · 23/03/2021 06:41

If you like Sabine/Sabina maybe Sabrina?

skeggycaggy · 23/03/2021 08:16

Astrid is lovely.

Greta?

KirstenBlest · 23/03/2021 08:35

Not RTFT.

It's likely to be quite popular, which takes the edge off it a bit. Ingrid might be an alternative.

KirstenBlest · 23/03/2021 08:36

Sabine is nice but there are different ways of saying it. The original pronunciation is Zab-ee-nuh.

AstridsMama · 23/03/2021 09:08

I have one! Smile
I am not cool in anyway, but she is Grin

I also liked:

@KirstenBlest Are we talking future top 10 popular or just a bit more common, do you think? I don't mind if it's popular, but am surprised as it's not a name I've heard anything about offline.

@skeggycaggy Several years ago when I was first thinking about baby names my list of favourites was Astrid, Lydia, Sabine and Greta! How interesting to see Sabine and Greta both suggested. I adore Greta, but I think too many people's first thought would be Thunberg nowadays. I respect and admire her, but probably would rather avoid a name with such a current connection in people's minds.

I do love Astrid so much I suspect we will end up choosing it.
