Two middle names?

Is it ok & a usual thing to have two middle names? (Four names in total)

Not unusual I don't think, but not usual

Definitely OK. Most kids only have one but it's not super rare to have two. My DD has two, my SIL does and so does a friend and her two kids.

I have two and I’ve always liked it 😂

My DP has 2 which I didn't think was a bit unusual but we ended up giving DS 2 middle names also! I know people with NO middle names which I think is stranger than having 2!

I have two but have dropped one. Oddly all my siblings have one so I suspect it is because I was my mum's youngest.

I know and have met a few people who go by a middle name, so if you give two they have two to choose from :)

I think with middle names you can do what you like really. There's a huge focus on them on MN - "Should I call him Oliver James or Michael Stephen?" - but in real life I think no one cares beyond immediate family unless the initials spell HAM or CUNT or something.

My DH comes from a country where it is more common to go by a middle name (he does). We had a shortlist of 3 for our DC and couldn't decide which, if any, to drop. So we kept all 3, so if DC decides to use go by a middle name later in life they have more to choose from :-)

We gave both our kids two middle names. Both had a name as bumps which I wanted to honour/ remember, so these are their second middle names!

I agree it’s fine. I gave mine two middle names. It was nice as my husband and I chose one middle name each. I went to school with a girl with three middle names and at the time thought that was most impressive.

DD has two.

I always wished I had an extra middle name growing up, possibly because the one I had was the standard go to middle name for girls born in the 70’s & 80’s. DH only has one name - no middle names at all. When we had DCs I wanted them to have two middle names & DH didn’t see the point in them having any. So we agreed that any DSs would have one mn. And any DDs would have two. Because there are many more girls names we both liked than boys.

Completely normal/commonplace - lots of people have two middle names instead of one (sometimes to honour both sides of the family). Three or more middle names, I think you are often in very upper class/aristocracy territory so could be more unusual.

I think two is dead classy, me. DC1 has 4 first names as we thought at the time we'd only be lucky enough to have one and wanted to thank and honour loads of people like an Oscars acceptance speech.

DS1 and their dad have 2.

We all have 2 (myself and two siblings), my dad has two, my mum and 2 nephews only have one, my DS has two, DS' dad has two, my new partner has two. Whatever works really but it's not unusual to me at least

My dad has two, most in my family have one, strictly speaking I have non but do have a double barrelled first name. My DH has non. Everyone is different.

I have 2. My sister has 3 (long ones too - her name doesn’t fit on passport forms. 😂)

My DD has 2, including my surname.

My DC and I all have two. I love them. We also have a double-barrelled surname (though no hyphen).

I don’t think it’s wildly common, though common enough that it won’t raise eyebrows. DH has 2 middle names, I only have 1. We settled on only one for our DCs for the simple reason that it makes filling out forms less annoying. DH routinely runs out of space on forms, and we’re both very practical people!

I have 2 middle names, so does my hubby and as a result so do our 2 children. We love it
