Have Tristan and would love to see other options for a similar/another arthurian legend name. So far we know of:
Konstantin
Merlin
Bedwyr
Arthur
Aurelius
Elyan
Lancelot
Lucian

I used to know a Gawain. It was cool.

YawnyOwl · 07/03/2021 20:07

Please don't call your child Merlin. I knew one who was bullied mercilessly! Confused

DelphiniumBlue · 07/03/2021 20:11

Leodegrance - was Giuinevere's father.
Taliesin (sp?)
Kay

NoWayHosier · 07/03/2021 20:13

I know a Gawain, marvellous.

Krazynights34 · 07/03/2021 20:15

Galahad!!!

LikeSilentRaindrops · 07/03/2021 20:18

Geraint
Gareth
Percival
Pelleas
Pelinore
Uther (maybe update to Luther?)
Melias
Lionel

Attictroll · 07/03/2021 20:19

We considered Gawain but didn’t want it shortened to Wayne 😂 would have loved to call a girl Percival!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 07/03/2021 20:23

Gawain seems okay (although some might not like it due to soundalike Wayne), same with Geraint, Gareth and Lionel. You could also use the lovely Emrys - works well with fellow Welsh Tristan (it was apparently Merlin's "real" name).

Arthur is super popular but could be your safest bet with Tristan. Lucian is well known too but might be a bit similar to Tristan? Konstantin and Aurelius are very exotic compared to Tristan, but are also very nice imo.

I like Lancelot and Merlin but they are too brave for me, as are Percival, Agravain, Galahad, Palamedes, Caradoc, Dagonet, Gaheris and Bedwyr/Bedivere. Elyan and Kay sound too feminine these days and Bors and Lamorak are awful.

DragonPoop · 07/03/2021 20:38

Emrys!
It’s Merlins original name (the Welsh version of his name I believe)

HopeClearwater · 07/03/2021 20:47

Agravain

Why would you call a girl Percival?!

Be careful with Arthurian names - some of those tales are sad, and the name Tristan is from the French for sadness.

HolyMusicalBman · 08/03/2021 16:35

Thanks everyone, really loving Gawaine and Emrys

No, that’s just a coincidence. Tristan comes from proto-Celtic and has nothing to do with French sadness Smile: www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2013/06/tristan.html

Perinore!

fudgecat · 08/03/2021 20:15

Excalibur

Thehouseofmarvels · 08/03/2021 20:17

I was at school with an Emrys

clary · 08/03/2021 20:20

I taught a Merlin, suited him actually (long hair and hippy vibe).

He must be about 25 now. Quite a name to live up to tho.

I love Gawain but don't think I'd dare. Ditto Lancelot.

Arthur is good tho 😀😀

Orphlids · 08/03/2021 21:51

Oh, please use Uther! If our last (and final) baby had been a boy, she would have been Uther. So much more exciting than plain old Arthur. It’s almost impossible to say ‘Uther’ without doing a sort of medieval style air grab. We were contemplating going for the full Uther Pendragon, although might have chickened out in the end. She’s an Isolde, but I’ll always be sad I never got to use Uther.

Helspopje · 08/03/2021 21:58

The only merlin I know is a mould and Fungus expert
He’s pretty cool tbh

Ellmau · 08/03/2021 23:06

Percival
Gawain
Galahad
Tristan
Mark ;)

Perhaps not Kay or Mordred

willibald · 08/03/2021 23:10

Cuneglas
Grundleus

greengrey · 08/03/2021 23:18

I have an Emrys named for Merlin without the bullying potential.

I heard him on radio 2. Very interesting.
TheFlis12345 · 08/03/2021 23:29

@Orphlids I have always LOVED the name Uther!

Orphlids · 09/03/2021 04:25

@TheFlis12345, that is because you have excellent taste! 😉

Helspopje · 09/03/2021 07:06

@MuddyWalks
His dad (also extremely interesting) was a fellow at my college and I met Merlin as a first year just as I was finishing my PhD. He was already an excellent person to get stuck next to at dinner.
