Girl's names - help!

Nell96 · 03/03/2021 19:46

I've posted before, but we've just found out that we're having a little girl. We already have one daughter, called Nia. I'd love some opinions on our list, and maybe some other suggestions. In order, we like:

Sabrina
Erin
Fern
Serena
Iona
Hazel
Faye

Looking for something not massively popular, not too frilly or cutesy. I like names with an interesting meaning or historical link, or ones which are associated with nature. Thanks.

I love Serena from your list! My suggestion is Celeste. Also, Erin is really popular where I live (SW England) - may be a regional thing but DH and I were just saying earlier how so many kids we know are called Erin and Reuben! They seem to be the two we come across most. Just a heads up if you don't want popular.

Happenchance · 03/03/2021 19:56

I prefer Fern from your list.

Other suggestions:
Savannah (Similar to Sabrina but sounds less like Nia)
Celeste

giantbottom · 03/03/2021 19:59

Sabrina/Serena and Nia don't sound right together.

Eliana
Felicity
Lucy
Lara
Saskia
Naomi
Suzette
Jasmine

giantbottom · 03/03/2021 20:00

Maybe not Eliana actually. I think a name with no N may suit Nia best.

RickOShay · 03/03/2021 20:03

Love Iona. Beautiful name.

May2021Mummy · 03/03/2021 20:05

I love Erin and Faye from your list. I prefer shorter names.

I'm not a fan of Hazel but that's just personal preference

MuddleMoo · 03/03/2021 20:06

Nia & Simone?
Fern works well if it's Nia & Fern but Fern & Nia is a bit hard for me to say outloud.

Quercus3 · 03/03/2021 20:52

Gorgeous list, love them all! Erin is quite popular here which would put me off but I think you can't go wrong with the rest 🙂

Awalkinthefreshair · 03/03/2021 20:53

I really like Serena and Iona from your list.

Fern, Faye or Hazel from your list! Love all three.

I also love Nia.

elliemara · 03/03/2021 21:01

Love the name Nia! I think Faye goes beautifully with it - the others on your list not so much

Aquamarine1029 · 03/03/2021 21:02

Nia and Farrah

CoffeeRunner · 03/03/2021 21:05

@MuddleMoo

Nia & Simone? Fern works well if it's Nia & Fern but Fern & Nia is a bit hard for me to say outloud.
I’m only getting Nina Simone from that.
TenThousandSpoons · 03/03/2021 21:05

Hazel

CoffeeRunner · 03/03/2021 21:07

I love Fern, Erin & Serena from your list.

How about;

Niamh
Seren
Holly

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/03/2021 03:14

Of your choices Faye sounds lovely with Nia , although I'd also suggest classic May too - underused as a first name and also a flower (so nature links).

I also think Eira would work well with Nia - Welsh and nature meaning too, or maybe Vaila? (a Scottish Island like Iona and a pretty name).

Other favourite (and underused) nature names I love are Cassia and Gaia (these have historical links too, being Ancient Roman/Greek).

TaraR2020 · 04/03/2021 03:35

@CoffeeRunner me too!

Op you have a lovely name list there, personally I was drawn to Iona and Faye most.

How about also Aine, Breda or Eavan?

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 04/03/2021 03:37

Hazel
Faye
Juliette

Chunkymenrock · 04/03/2021 04:07

Great list, apart from the S names. Hazel is my favourite. How about Tamsin?

NeedSomeInfoAgain · 04/03/2021 04:58

With Nia I'd go for Iona, Erin, Fern or Faye. All the names on your list are lovely, but if I was Nia and my sister was Sabrina/Serena, there might be a point in my early teens (before growing out of it Grin) when I'd feel somewhat short-changed.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 04/03/2021 06:08

Robyn

Favourite from list is Fern.

Other suggestions:

Nice names, I love Serena, Iona and Sabrina, in that order.
Quite like Fern. Erin's OK - bit dull, Aeryn bit more interesting. Don't like Hazel or Faye.

Other thoughts - Cassia, Fernanda, Rosanna/Rosanagh, Isella (Cornish name - form of Isabella I think), Lois, Ines, Arran, Laurel, Bay, Briar, Aislinn (Ash-lin), Frances, Esther
