I wouldn't normally use surnames on here but it relates to our choice and we're really struggling. We don't know if we're having a boy or girl but boys name all chosen and fine, girls name I thought would be easy but it's not!

Please could I ask for constructive criticism on these options! Catherine and Rose are both family names which have sentiment for us (I know Rose is very popular as a middle name but it was my grandmother's name and that's why I would like to use it regardless of the popularity issue). We can't use Catherine as a first name but I wouldn't be averse to Rose.

Anya Catherine Rose Head
Anna Catherine Rose Head
Isla Catherine Rose Head (LOVE Isla but massive popularity puts me off whereas DH is keen to use it anyway)
Anaya Catherine Rose Head
Amara Catherine Rose Head
Adia Catherine Rose Head
Amelie or Amalia Catherine Rose Head
Or go with Rose (Rosaline) Catherine something Head

Please help. I won't be offended in any way re the surname - the issue we're having is that I don't think all of these first names work with our surname but before I write why, I'd be interested in people's thoughts as it may just be that I'm overthinking things....

Rosaline Catherine Head
without another middle name sounds good.

Chilldonaldchill · 28/02/2021 10:27

It is a difficult surname.
I think Rose Head isn't good either (makes me think immediately of deadheading roses) but Rosaline Head would work. And Rosie or Rosa then work as a shortening. I'd go for Amelie though - it's beautiful and works absolutely fine with the surname. I think it's the only name on there where the flow of the first and surname together doesn't make you "notice" the surname if you know what I mean. I think it needs the longer first name and I just don't like Anaya or Amara.

I like Anna or Rose/Rosie. Catherine is my overall favourite. In the last couple of years I have taught several Anaya/Ayana/Inaya/Adhiyas, it is a fairly common Indian name locally. I don't like the others.
SundayTeatime · 28/02/2021 11:21

I don’t think you can have Rose Head. I like both Anna and Anya, but I still think both are a bit abrupt with your surname. Catherine goes best to me.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 28/02/2021 11:30

Anna Head sounds like Hammerhead and I know this probably won't be an issus but I knew a Hanna Head always called Hammerhead and she hated it. Sorry, but I think the Amaya, etc names are a bit blah. I can't even remember them because they all merge into one, and I've checked like 4 times now. Isla is way too popular, totally ruined the name. I'd definitely go for Anya, or Rose. Beautiful and no real issues with the surname. I'd choose Rosalie over Rosaline

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 28/02/2021 11:31

Can you have Catherine Rose Head, nickname Kitty?

HurricaneBitch · 28/02/2021 11:36

Isla Head - I love head.
I have an awkward surname, I feel your pain.

NameChange30 · 28/02/2021 11:37

Is there another surname you could use?
Did you change your surname to Head after getting married?

KirstenBlest · 28/02/2021 12:24

Ignore the middle names as they are rarely used.
Rose as you have already said is very popular as a MN. I'd say overused to the point of being meh.
Rose Head makes me think of a watering can rose.

Anya Head - too much like On yer head
Anna Head - Ann Ahead
Isla Head (LOVE Isla but massive popularity puts me off whereas DH is keen to use it anyway) - Isla overused, Isla Head sounds like Isle Ahead or Isle of Head
Anaya Head- - don't like
Amara Head- don't like
Adia Head- don't like
Amelie Head - don't like
Amalia Head - people will read Ameli

Or go with Rose (Rosaline) Catherine something Head

It's not the easiest surname, so avoid Malen and Beachy and the like.

KirstenBlest · 28/02/2021 12:25

oops, Amalia Head - people will read Ameli should have said
Amalia Head - people will read Amelia

munchymoo · 28/02/2021 14:49

Ooh didn't think about Isla Head - I love Head - do people reckon that's a thing? It honestly didn't occur to me

Anya Head - does this sound too much like "on yer head" in an Irish accent?!

We can't use Catherine as a first name for various reasons....

Agree that Rose Head is a bit abrupt as monosyllabic but would use Rosaline as the proper name but Rose day to day, and we wouldn't be saying her full name all the time....or is it just not good. It's such a beautiful name but I didn't think about deadheading roses - I'm not a gardener!!! Grin

@HurricaneBitch

Isla Head - I love head. I have an awkward surname, I feel your pain.
I also thought that immediately
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 28/02/2021 14:56

I don’t like Rose Head, it sounds like Tree Top or Hedge Row.

BingBongToTheMoon · 28/02/2021 15:01

Rosaline is gorgeous!

partyatthepalace · 28/02/2021 15:18

Surnames can be tricky!

I’d go for Amelia Catherine Rose Head

Amelie and Isla are too trendy of the minute. Anna is lovely but too abrupt with your surname. Rosaline is lovely but but you can’t stop her being called Rose and I don’t think you can have Rose Head. Anaya/Amara/Adia/Anya all just merge into one indistinct blah - people will misspell and misremember it constantly.

I’m sure you don’t want any other thoughts (!) but just in case - Lydia, Serena, Madeleine, Annabel, Adela, Cassia, Felicity, Cecily

picklewiggle · 28/02/2021 15:39

Very tricky surname.

Anya - yes I can hear On ye head with Anya Head. Plus there's the Potato Head toy and Anya is a potato variety.

Rose - beheaded roses but also foam rose heads you can buy for household decor folderol.

Isla - I love head.

I think Rosalind would work with Rosa as NN.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/03/2021 00:32

I don't think I'd risk Anya with the surname Head and Isla is much too trendy for me.

All your other choices are fine - but I especially like Amara as I think 3 syllables flows best with your surname and Amara Catherine Rose sounds pretty and flows very well.

RoundedTum · 01/03/2021 01:06

That is a bit of a tricky surname to work with.

Ignoring the middle names as they never get used, I think Amara Head or a Rosalind/ Rosamund/ Rosalie/ Rosa type name would work best.

BurgundyBells · 01/03/2021 01:09

Rosaline Catherine Head

This is a beautiful name.

Nothing else is needed, another middle name would detract, not add to it imo.

Heh1991 · 01/03/2021 02:49

Isla Head doesn’t work for me (immediately thought of “I love head”)

Not a fan of Rosaline Head either because inevitably she will be either “Rose Head” sounds like top of the flower or “Rosa Head” sounds like “rows ahead”

All gorgeous names though and love all other combos! I feel your pain, I have a similar surname.

Xx1d1xX · 01/03/2021 03:04

Amelia-Rose Catherine Head

Amelia-Rose double-barrelled together sounds good and think Catherine sounds better at the end part of the middle name next to Head.

VanillaAndOrange · 01/03/2021 08:50

Anna!

KirstenBlest · 01/03/2021 09:52

@Xx1d1xX ,
Amelia-Rose double-barrelled together sounds good

To you maybe. It doesn't to me, and is too long.

LittleBigDreams · 01/03/2021 10:58

All lovely names but can see the dilemmas as above. Some lovely names that don't jar too much with your surname:

Abigail Head
Esme Head (Ez-May)
Annabelle Head
Alexandra Head
Addison Head
Imogen Head
Penelope Head

I think the longer names seem to flow better with Head. I hope they help give some inspiration Thanks

SirVixofVixHall · 01/03/2021 11:03

Anya Head, makes me think of names like Iona Bull.
Football for Beginners by Anya Head etc.
Catherine Rose Head the nicest.
