Please help! Had a name picked out for a few weeks (baby is due next month!) but finding girl names really hard and having a middle of the night wobble and Google of other options.

Which is nicest?

Alice
Bryony
Eliza/Elizabeth?
Emily

Alice was the front runner- not sure why having a wobble!

Emily is very bland. Alice also bland but slightly less. Bryony has trashy overtones for me, not sure why, it's in the Tiffany zone.

I'd go for Eliza. Not Elizabeth with William or Charles as a brother. Or just Liza?

PiratePenguin · 01/03/2021 18:57

I have a Bryony and she is not at all dowdy. She is the only Bryony is her secondary school of 2000+ students. Bryony is a flower fairy named after the plant. Our nn for her is Bee. It’s a beautiful name (as are the others on your list) but I hope you don’t use it as the fewer Bryony’s there are makes my daughter’s name more unusual. I love the fact I can never find things with her name on - shows it isn’t ‘run of the mill’!!

Alice!

AyeKarumba · 01/03/2021 19:05

Elizabeth is fab.

Loads of nicknames:

Eliza
Beth
Ellie
Liz
Lizzie
Betsy
Libby
Elle

Love it!

dottiedaisee · 01/03/2021 19:07

Eliza or Alice

Notavegan · 01/03/2021 19:09

I was worried about the popularity of Emily, but mine is the only one in her year (age 4).

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 01/03/2021 19:20

Bryony! It’s fab.
The others are really boring in comparison and I can only think of headlice when I see the name Alice.

danascully96 · 01/03/2021 20:45

Out of those, Elizabeth. Eliza can be hard to say “Uh-Liza” or “Ee-Liza,” so go with the full name and then just introduce her as Eliza.

danascully96 · 01/03/2021 20:46

Liza is also super cute! Watch My Fair Lady and you’ll fall in ❤️ with the name.

SenecaTrewe · 01/03/2021 23:01

Bryony

EugenesAxe · 01/03/2021 23:04

Bryony for me.

EvilOnion · 01/03/2021 23:13

I'd rank them:
Eliza (I don't like Elizabeth but oddly enough, I love Eliza and Beth!)
Bryony
Emily
Alice

luckynumber · 01/03/2021 23:22

I can't get over Bryony being Brian with a y on the end.

Morgoth · 02/03/2021 14:27

Alice is gorgeous but so is Eliza or Elizabeth. Not keen on the others.

KirstenBlest · 02/03/2021 15:16

@luckynumber

I can't get over Bryony being Brian with a y on the end.
This. It's too Briany
sharenlac · 02/03/2021 15:31

@haggisandmarsbar

Alice is lovely, as is Bryony.
I like Alice, it is a modern name
sharenlac · 02/03/2021 15:32

@Losingtheplot2021

Like them all except Bryony
I agree with you
sharenlac · 02/03/2021 15:33

@KillerFlamingo

Briony is lovely and unusual these days.

I can't stand Alice, just makes me think of Lice tbh Grin.

Wtf how dies Alice remind you of lice, bryony is the type of name for a girl who has a moustache and has eye brows as thick as Saturn's ring
ScarletORyan · 02/03/2021 15:59

Depends on number of syllables in surname. Elizabeth or Bryony + 3 syllable surname is too much of a mouthful. I had a 4 syllable first name and surname before marriage and I found this too long!

Sunnyrainydays · 02/03/2021 16:41

Eliza and Elizabeth both gorgeous

oscarandelliesdad · 02/03/2021 16:44

They are all lovely. Alice was our first choice for dd but when she was born I had a wobble and we went for Elizabeth. I love it but she hankers after being an Alice. So my vote would be Elizabeth. They are good eggsGrin

leggingsandwellies · 02/03/2021 17:28

@sharenlac a bit harsh perhaps? Although I agree with you about not understanding the lice thing.

I like them all except Bryony.

Elizabeth is my favourite.
