Names which were just too brave

Hi!
What names did you love but just weren't brave enough to use?

Czarina
Topaz
Brie

We have very conservative tastes in names. The most off the wall name we dallied with was Miles, which looking back nearly 30 years seems quite tame.

practicalworrier · 28/02/2021 06:19

Fair enough re: Astrid! DH and I only ever went for extremely classic names so although I liked Astrid we never considered it as a serious contender!

WhereTheWildlingsLive · 28/02/2021 06:29

Mowgli! Would have really suited him too.

They both have fairly unusual names anyway so really it wasn't a bravery sticking point rather an OH one.. Hmm Will now be saved for the cat! 🐈

groovergirl · 28/02/2021 06:30

Astrid deserves to be widely used and loved. Astrid Lindgren wrote Pippi Longstocking, one of my favourite books.

On my short list was Amaryllis but the H nixed it. However, DD likes it and says she might use it if she has a DD of her own. Smile

Opalfruits2 · 28/02/2021 06:42

Perdita or Perdie for short like 101 Dalmatians!

DP says it is too ‘posh’ for where we live and she would stick out like a sore thumb

QuickShadow · 28/02/2021 06:49

Cosmo
Juniper
And I've always secretly liked Plum!

Zarinea · 28/02/2021 06:50

Saffron. Suggested by DH who never watched AbFab.

alanpartridgefromtheoasthouse · 28/02/2021 06:54

I love some of these. Hero, Juno and Saffron are all gorgeous names. And Perdita!

I liked Romilly and Seraphina. We went with something much less unusual in the end, although still a name I love.

Motherissues2020 · 28/02/2021 06:56

Mine aren't even that out there but DH has very classic taste in names.

Willow
Wren
Summer
Winter
Rowan

I like a nature theme.

Saywhatyoumeanandmeanwhatyousa · 28/02/2021 06:58

I went through a stage of wanting to name DD Dusty. I blame pregnancy hormones Smile

AngelDelightUK · 28/02/2021 07:00

Meadow and Miley

Miley was kybushed straight away so I didn’t bother suggesting Meadow!

Orphlids · 28/02/2021 07:23

Ooh, quite a few on this thread that we considered, including Dusty and Hero. For a girl, I also love Ginger, Lennox, and Loveday. DP wanted to name DD Boudicca, and I admit I do love it, but I thought that would probably be a burden for her.

For a boy, I love Uther Pendragon.

BlackSabbath · 28/02/2021 07:30

Pandora

Blueskytoday06 · 28/02/2021 07:55

Roxy & Kitty

Treehops · 28/02/2021 08:17

I didn't get chance to use some of mine as I came up with them after DS, but the one at the top of my list should I ever have the chance is Adrasteia.

grandmasterstitch · 28/02/2021 08:51

Petunia and Humphrey. Although in fairness we would probably have used Humphrey if this baby was a boy. That or Walter

ZooeyS · 28/02/2021 09:03

I absolutely love Kerouac Grin My dd has an unusual name, but if I’d had another baby we were pretty set on Tiger. Interesting that Kitty is seen as a brave choice - there are three Kittys and a Kit in dd’s class!

Drowninginwashing · 28/02/2021 09:43

Fulbright
Astor
Bedivere
Aneirin

Iseult
Isadora
Aphra
Hera

Enko · 28/02/2021 09:51

Aida and Lakme' DH vetoed I still love both.

Horatio for a boy

AliasGrape · 28/02/2021 10:00

We called the bump Horatio before we knew if we were having a boy or girl!

Not really a bravery issue as dd's name was always the frontrunner as it has a particular meaning/connection for us - we considered some others but as soon as she was born it was obvious she was her name if that makes sense? But there are several names I adore but probably wouldn't have used, particularly because DH is far more boring than me and partly because even if they're fairly accepted elsewhere, they would still be seen as quite outlandish round here:

Hero
Valentina
Delilah

Also loved Diana but doubt we'd have used that either.

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/02/2021 10:29

Humphrey
Keith

Like another poster loved Sherlock
And Merlin, Emrys.
Lindsey for a boy

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 28/02/2021 12:30

Thora. We were braver with DC2 and would have used it, had he been a girl...

AllGonnaLaughAtYou · 28/02/2021 13:28

Isis is a nice name, but (apart from the obvious association) its also awkward when saying the possessive. Look at isis's drawing! Bit of a tongue twister!

Mammaaof · 28/02/2021 13:33

@GeorgiaGirl52 my little girl is called Brie. I had the piss taken out of me on here, even had a whole thread bullying the name( it was removed after a while)
