Just that really. Would like feedback (not bothered about it being a wintry name re month she'll be born etc) and am open to any suggestions of similar sounding names preferably with 2 syllables ending -elle.

It’s a no from me. Just makes me think of Noel Edmonds.

partyatthepalace · 24/02/2021 16:08

I don't like it - reminds me of out of tune carol singing and yes, Noel Edmunds.

Estelle? I like Estella and Stella better though
Ishbel - it's Scottish so I think the extra le might be odd at the end
Danielle is v dated and downmarket so you probably wouldn't want that Sibyl - nearly works

Other than that there are lots of 3 syllable ones...

minionme · 24/02/2021 16:09

It's nice 👍

DramaAlpaca · 24/02/2021 16:10

Also no from me. It's very dated and not in a granny chic way.

I probably dislike it because I don't like Noel, the male form of the name.

I tend not to like names with 'no' in them - Noel, Noah, Nora etc.

Toilenstripes · 24/02/2021 16:12

I love it. To me it’s unusual and slightly exotic. Very pretty too.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/02/2021 16:30

Noelle is okay, but does sound super Christmassy to me - far more than than the boys Noel (I think it's because the Noelle sound is used more in carols?).

For me Noelle is nicer than Michelle and Danielle, but not as pretty as lovely Estelle imo. Giselle and Adele I'd put in the middle, but I still prefer over Noelle.

KirstenBlest · 24/02/2021 20:00

Too christmassy.

ftmum94 · 24/02/2021 20:38

I love Noelle! Can’t get it past the husband though who vetos every time.

IndigoJewel · 24/02/2021 20:40

I absolutely love it

RebeccaCloud9 · 24/02/2021 21:15

... Noelle, Noelle, Noelle, born is the king of Israel.

Cant think of it any other way. Except maybe Noel Edmonds.

Loopyloututu2 · 24/02/2021 21:19

I like it.

MumUndone · 24/02/2021 21:20

IMO you should only call a child born in December Noelle. I used to know a Noella who was born on Christmas Day.

Borntohula · 24/02/2021 21:22

Danielle is v dated and downmarket

How can a name be 'downmarket?'

ShalomToYouJackie · 24/02/2021 21:23

Reminds me of Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus haha, lovely name though

Travellingraspberry · 24/02/2021 21:34

I like it!

Also like Joelle as an alternative

BrandoraPaithwaite · 24/02/2021 21:55

Her name is Noelle
I had a dream about her
She rings my bell
Got gym class in half an hour

Is how the start of Teenage Dirtbag by Wheetus goes. Great song, Noelle in the song seems lovely and I like the name a lot.

TempsPerdu · 24/02/2021 23:07

I think it works well as a middle name for a winter/Christmas baby. But I wouldn’t use it as a first name, or for a baby born at any other time of year - has very strong Christmassy vibes for me.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 24/02/2021 23:10

I love it. Its my cousins name and she wasn't born at Christmas (9 months later as my Grandad pointed out once)
Its pronounced completely differently to Noel so I don't associate them, even though they are male and female forms of the same name.

lifestoooshort · 24/02/2021 23:14

Sounds christmassy obviated but that's not a bad thing ! I love it - unusual and very pretty sounding

danascully96 · 25/02/2021 07:53

I’ve always found it beautiful, but my brains gone silly and all I hear is “No L” which bothers me Envy

Zarinea · 25/02/2021 07:58

I like it, but I'd assume you didn't know the meaning if you gave it to a non-Christmas baby.

JungOwlWan · 25/02/2021 08:00

I love it!
Also love Nollaig which is less pretty and more celtic.

JungOwlWan · 25/02/2021 08:00

Less soft sounding iykwim

FamilyOfAliens · 25/02/2021 08:04

Love Estelle as a pp said.

I think the Christmas connection with Noelle is too strong I’m afraid

partyatthepalace · 25/02/2021 08:24

@Borntohula

Many names have that association. See these name threads when anyone asks about eg Jayden etc.

Not suggesting that these associations are right or wrong, but they exist, and no point pretending they don't.
