Middle name for Forest?

mamah2019 · 15/02/2021 21:28

Says it all in the title really.

I have an idea of what I'd like to go for but I want to make sure I've looked at all options before locking a middle name in. I would love to hear some other people's suggestions please.

It's for a little boy :)

Thank you!

@ktp100 he's already born and not one person has said it. I obviously considered this when thinking about the name. And I expect people thought it when we announced but no one has said 'oh like Forrest Gump'.
Even if they did I suppose I'd have to say... yeah? I mean do all the Hannah's in the world get 'oh like Montana?' Who knows haha x

Some people really need to channel Thumper and learn to shut up if they can't say anything nice Hmm

These would be my favourite middle names:

Forest James
Forest Jackson
Forest Alexander
Forest George
Forest Michael

RuledbyASD · 15/02/2021 22:40

Marie? Amelia?

I actually really like Forest. Not too girly but just enough to be pretty 🦉🐞💫

CoffeeRunner · 15/02/2021 22:40
@ReggieKrait thank you! We've gone for 1 R because it separates it from the Forrest Gump/ KKK side to things and I also didn't like how it looked like for rest with 2 R's but at least he can say 'like a literal Forest' if he's asked how to spell it haha xx
I’m sorry but losing an r does not separate the name from Gump or the KKK one iota.

For a start, many people won’t even know Forrest Gump is spelt with the second r.

To separate the name it has to be vaguely similar but different. The same word spelt differently is still the same word.

AllMyPrettyOnes · 15/02/2021 22:41

No he won't because people in real life are not childish bitches.
Ignore them OP they'd only be happy if you called him James or Nicholas or some other overused name.

Took the words out of my mouth.

Magnificentmug12 · 15/02/2021 22:42

Think it’s a great name but was ruined by first gump. I don’t think it’s now a good name for a child due to the film and he will be teased about it.

I wasn’t even born when Star Wars came out but I know Luke skywalker and the force and all those references even though I haven’t even seen one Star Wars film. People will know run Forest run.

mamah2019 · 15/02/2021 22:43

@Shehasadiamondinthesky oh god let's hope his school isn't full of Daves if he wants to change it to that to 'fit in' haha!

If he wants to change it when he's older that's his choice. My partner has a boring 'normal' name, he hates it but is in his 30's and still goes by that name so I'm sure he'll get used to it x

Nathan Bedford Forrest died in 1877. It was his surname not first name.

Are we to say that all names of reviled, evil people should be made extinct and never used again? That’s not usually how it works is it? Seems a little unfair to the OP.

mamah2019 · 15/02/2021 22:45

@CoffeeRunner regardless I didn't like how it looked as for rest so connotations aside I preferred it with one R.

barnhen · 15/02/2021 22:45

I like the idea of something long and traditional (depends on the surname) for balance. It also means if he doesn't feel like a Forest when he grows up, he can use his middle name, and if it's a long one, he can shorten it if that suits him better. Just gives him options - it's really hard to tell a baby's adult personality! You never know, he might really like Forest and stick with it.

What will his surname begin with...?

He's going to get comments all his life about being called Forest, so I would at least make sure his initials don't spell out another thing people can tease him with! E.g. William might be a nice contrast to Forest, but not if your surname begins with a B.

douliket · 15/02/2021 22:45

Forest Anthony
Forest Winslow
Forest Oliver
Forest Bryce
Forest Ezra
Forest Allen

I actually much prefer Forest to americany names..I really dislike boys names like Cody, Hank,Brad etc
A name really forms a persons first impression of you,Cody ,Hank and Brad would lead me to the opinion that they are not very bright, and I can't help it,it's just the impression that comes to mind automatically

AllMyPrettyOnes · 15/02/2021 22:46

Star Wars was a 70’s film. People still know who Luke Skywalker was

Well yes, but it probably helps that the latest Star Wars film with Luke Skywalker in came out in 2017 Hmm weird comparison

PADH · 15/02/2021 22:47

I'd probably go for something really classic and traditional for a bit of contrast. Like Alexander or James. Are there any family names that you like? Or a surname? My daughter has similar rare, nature type name that suited my maiden name really well as a middle name.

Ignore posters bashing your name choice. I like it. You could give your child the plainest, most common name and kids will make up a crule nick names about anything. Case and point, my brother is very very tall and is called Jack - since high school he's been not so lovingly known as "beanstalk" by his peers. Youd consider Jack to be quite safe but there you go. Someone who's mean will always find a way.

Moonface123 · 15/02/2021 22:47

I happen to like Forrest, and so many at school now have different sounding names
I only have a middle name for my eldest as l find you only ever use It when filling out forms. Neither myself or my two sisters have a middle name and I'm quite glad about it.

canonlydoblue · 15/02/2021 22:48

@CoffeeRunner

But there have been masses of Star Wars films made in the last 40 years. Of course Luke Skywalker is still relevant. I might go and whispers the word Forest into my three year old's ear and see if she shouts 'run' in an overly dramatic way....

AllMyPrettyOnes · 15/02/2021 22:48

OP, I think it's lovely.

Ignore the comments here. MN only likes names in the UK top 20 Grin

Tangledtresses · 15/02/2021 22:49

Oh no op don't do it! I have a weird name and it's not fun
Both my sons have normal names because I had to live with a ridiculous name.,..

Well no because Hannah is a biblical name predating Hannah Montana by around 2000 years. And she is not the only person named Hannah most of us have ever heard of.

People in RL are of course very polite when you announce a new baby name, why wouldn’t they be? But here you will get honest opinions - which is what a lot of new mums or mums to be post for.

None of it is a personal reflection on you or your baby. Just brutally honest opinions on the name he has been saddled with.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 15/02/2021 22:50

Wow some hilarious posters out tonight. Can't really see how forest is different to violet, wren, willow, river, lily etc. And there are plenty of those about.

I like something like Forest Benjamin I think OP.

mamah2019 · 15/02/2021 22:50

@PADH thank you! I always think this, regardless of your name, if kids want to make fun they'll find a way.

Even a name like Thomas could get the tank engine link. I could go on but there's probably links to most names that could be picked up on.

Not in the slightest. Both are still extremely well know films. And I mean the original Star Wars not the latest episodes.
mamah2019 · 15/02/2021 22:53

@CoffeeRunner but Forest is a legit name. Forrest is a surname and I'm sure that's been around for a very long time too. It's a popular name in the states too. It's not like it's plucked from thin air.

I don't think Forest is a great name TBH but you seem set on it[- if you choose something mainstream like Alexander for a middle name at least they could switch it if they wanted.]

borntohula · 15/02/2021 22:54

It's a perfectly fine name (I like nature names), ignore the shitty comments, they ought to grow up as they are literally comparing themselves to schoolchildren. You've already had plenty of decent middle name suggestions but I have a really unusual name (I've literally never met or heard of another person with it) and I have no middle name (nor do I feel hard done by 🙄).
