Ok - I'm ready for the onslaught here...

But I loveeee the name Ithaca. Our surname is very common, one syllable.

Thoughts?

It’s not my favourite.

Biscusting · 11/02/2021 15:06

I like it, not crazy at all to me.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 11/02/2021 15:06

Are you American?
There is a city in New York called Ithaca.
I really really wouldn't...

Katie1784 · 11/02/2021 15:06

Unusual - and I think most people will struggle will pronounciation. But it's not awful.

Buzzer3555 · 11/02/2021 15:07

I think its nice

Ithaca, New York was my first thought. I haven't ever heard it as a name just as places.
PatriciaHolm · 11/02/2021 15:08

My immediate assumption would be you had named her after where she was conceived on holiday....

PatriciaHolm · 11/02/2021 15:08

(as in the Greek island)

FelicityPike · 11/02/2021 15:08

It’s not the worst.....it’s a Greek island and a place in New York State. HOWEVER people use place names all the time. If you both like it then why not?

thistimelastweek · 11/02/2021 15:09

Sounds a bit like something said with a speech impediment

Pebbledashery · 11/02/2021 15:09

It's unusual but in a good way.

TenThousandSpoons · 11/02/2021 15:10

I quite like it. Children struggle to pronounce th so she will be Iffica to many for a while, if that bothers you.

statetrooperstacey · 11/02/2021 15:10

How do you pronounce it? Written down it looks like the sound a cat makes when it’s bringing up a hair ball. Sorry.

AuntieStella · 11/02/2021 15:10

It's a Greek island isn't it?

I think it's OK as a name (sounding a bit lukewarm, because people may forget the timing of the pandemic and assume it's a place of conception name following a holiday in the Med)

Crockof · 11/02/2021 15:11

Well I was already to say no but actually I quite like it.

Peaseblossom22 · 11/02/2021 15:12

If you want Greek with an I what about Ianthe or Iolanthe or Ilithya much prettier than Ithaca which is a place name.

Disfordarkchocolate · 11/02/2021 15:13

I've never heard this before. I like it.

pooopypants · 11/02/2021 15:15

Sounds a bit like a skin condition to me but it could work

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 11/02/2021 15:17

I think it's a nice sound. I don't think it'd be for me, but of you like it, it's not offensive or anything. Just unusual.

(But also, give the 'th' thing a bit of thought - I have a friend whose newborn daughter is Martha, only my friend can't pronounce the 'th' sound Confused

sadpapercourtesan · 11/02/2021 15:18

It's bloody awful as a name. Sounds like someone mispronouncing Jessica. And she will get called Iffy.

I've been to Ithaca, it's beautiful, and I love the poem "Ithaca" by Contstantine Cavafy as well - but as a girl's name, it's ghastly.

BrutusMcDogface · 11/02/2021 15:19

It sounds a bit like Jessica with a lisp...

Love the above suggestion of Ianthe.

DimidDavilby · 11/02/2021 15:19

I like it

@Peaseblossom22 while Ilithya may look pretty, it's also used to call a girl stupid. Not the greatest name meaning.

Sorry OP, not crazy about Ithaca.

spookycookies · 11/02/2021 15:23

There are so many beautiful names out there. Why chose a word that isn't a name. IT's NOT A NAME

Aquamarine1029 · 11/02/2021 15:25

I'm sorry, it's a really ugly name for a person.
