If I like Carys...

...what else might I like? DH likes it too but it has a bad association for him.

It’s short enough not to need a nickname, easy to spell, not frilly, and as a nice bonus is Celtic-ish (we are welsh/Irish/Scottish mix).

Oh, and doesn’t get mangled in a London accent! Eg I like Elspeth but it would be pronounced Ehwspeff here.

Thanks Grin

What about Cerys instead? Or Caryl?

I also quite like Betsan, Cerian, Eleri, Mabli, Lowri and Manon - none are too 'welsh' I don't think (I'm welsh but living in England)

Bettina500 · 28/01/2021 13:56

Seren?

WashableVelvet · 28/01/2021 14:39

I like Cerian, never come across that! It’s a bit like Cariad which I like the sound of but to me it’s a word not a name iyswim.

I recently met a lady called Claris through work - fab name and maybe just different enough from Carys? It means bright and clear.

DeepfriedPizza · 28/01/2021 14:46

Any good?!

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2021 15:26

I know a Cerian. She says it as Kerr-yan, but others say it as Kerry-Ann.
Any name starting with Ce will get mispronounced and misspelt.

Don't use Llinos unless you want your DD to be known as Cleenose.

Mari, Mabli, Cari, Dona, Nia, Catrin, Tesni, ...

Emer? Eleri - I heard this pronounced to rhyme with "celery" once!

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2021 19:07

It definitely doesn't rhyme with Celery, unless you say Cell-erry. Smile

Not familiar with Emer. Is it a typo for Emyr?

Chunkymenrock · 28/01/2021 19:10

Emer is Irish. Pronounced EE-merh. How about Celyn, Tesni, Tamsin, Heidi?

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2021 19:14

Thanks Chunky. it's pretty.
Not keen on Celyn. It seems masculine.

Chunkymenrock · 28/01/2021 19:21

Celyn is Welsh for holly! It's pronounced with a hard 'c'.

RamsayBoltonsConscience · 28/01/2021 19:33

@Chunkymenrock

Celyn is Welsh for holly! It's pronounced with a hard 'c'.
My friend from school is called Delyn which is a bit easier to say.
