Considering it for my dd due April. My dh is half Italian and we're both keen for her to have an Italian name. I think it's lovely but would love to get others opinions?

We're thinking either Ella or Rafi as a nn. Thoughts?

I don't dislike it, but immediately thought of the white Ferrero Rocher Raffaello

sleepingfox · 23/01/2021 14:49

I love the name Raffaella, especially with this spelling! The one I know is Rafi for short, her sister is Chiara which is also beautiful if you want any other suggestions.

MarthaWashingtonsFeralTomcat · 23/01/2021 14:50

I prefer Rafelina nn Lina if you're wanting something very similar.

I do like it though and think honouring parents' heritage is as good a reason as any to choose a name!

DotDotDotDotDot · 23/01/2021 14:54

Beautiful choice, I prefer this Italian spelling too. Nicknames Raffi or Raffa are cute but don’t like Ella so much. Raffaella has a lovely meaning, congratulations!

CeSoin · 23/01/2021 14:57

Thank you, you're all making this decision easy for us. I think I'll wait until she's here and see which nn 'sticks'.

Didn't think about Raffa, I like that too!

Beautiful name too! Lina is a very pretty nn.

Lovely!

Chambored · 23/01/2021 15:11

Beautiful name, but not the boring and overused Ella nn. Rafi yes. But please not Ella.

CeSoin · 23/01/2021 15:23

@Bundlebuns and @kowari having a name similar to a chocolate isn't too bad is it!? I hadn't even thought about that!

Beautiful but it will never be pronounced properly by a non Italian speaker due to the double F and double L. But she must be happy for her to be called "Rafaela" by non Italians ( which I find beautiful anyway) and to correct the spelling of her name all the time....

Jen435 · 23/01/2021 15:30

I really like it but would go Rafi over Ella - you've chosen a slightly different name for a reason and Ella doesn't show it off as much

JovialNickname · 23/01/2021 15:41

Isn't that the coconut white chocolate with annoying bits in it? Inferior cousin to the Ferrero Rocher?

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 23/01/2021 16:17

Love it!!! Raphaela/Raphaela my fave spelling to make slightly less fussy. One of my favourite names

ILoveStickers · 23/01/2021 16:47

Lovely. Isn't one of the characters in My Brilliant Friend a Raffaella? I think her nickname is Lila.

octoberfarm · 23/01/2021 16:51

Love this name! I think either nickname is lovely. I prefer the spelling Raphaela, but I think it has a lovely sound to it regardless. Congratulations!

Ijustlikedthename · 23/01/2021 16:59

Love it! Love Raffa or Raffi for nicknames but not so keen on Ella

partyatthepalace · 23/01/2021 17:52

Tis lovely

PilatesPeach · 23/01/2021 17:57

Lovely, really pretty name

marialuisa · 23/01/2021 17:59

The one we know (100% Italian) is known as Faela for short. Lovely name

OhCaptain · 23/01/2021 18:01

Rafi is so cute!

massistar · 23/01/2021 18:02

This is my Italian SIL's name. She's known as Lella. Lovely name.
