I know an Adeline pronounced Ada-Lin, I think it's lovely.

FoxtrotOscarPoppet · 20/01/2021 20:35

I love it.
I wanted it for this baby but DH isn’t keen.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 20/01/2021 20:35

Very nice, I know an Avalon, its a similar sound and I like it as well

Bloodypunkrockers · 20/01/2021 20:35

It's a nice name but I would probably pronounce it

Adda Line

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/01/2021 20:37

Adelina is nice too

CrochetOrBust · 20/01/2021 20:37

I like it, but it’s one of those names that is going to get mispronounced all the time so be prepared for that. (I’d say adder-lyne if I didn’t know)

Aspiringmatriarch · 20/01/2021 20:38

It's beautiful.

Happynewtier · 20/01/2021 20:43

The two I know pronounce it Add-a-line, sort of how it's spelt. I think your pronounciation would mean it's often said "wrong". I much prefer Add-a-line if I'm honest.

DrFoxtrot · 20/01/2021 20:44

I would also pronounce as Adda-line like Caroline at the end.

yankeedoodlecandy · 20/01/2021 20:46

It lovely but like others would probably pronounce it Adda line

peapotter · 20/01/2021 20:51

I know one. She also pronounces it Adda-line

I would assume the Adel-een pronunciation was someone from a different cultural background. Sounds nice in a french accent, less so in mine!

ILoveStickers · 20/01/2021 21:04

I know one who's a toddler - hers is also like Caroline.

I think it's said like that in the film too.

calmearth · 20/01/2021 21:06

I love it. I love the correct pronunciation you are using and also Ada-line. Ada-Lyn pronunciation is ugly.

Adaleen is the correct pronunciation as it is a french name.

HappyFlamingo · 20/01/2021 21:07

I like it

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/01/2021 21:34

Lovely and very retro cool, although it is on it's way up in popularity so could end up as the new Evelyn eventually. I also think many people would pronounce it as "Ad -eh - line" rather than "Ade -eh -leen" so you'd need to not mind correcting people.

GoingBackTo505 · 20/01/2021 22:16

I know a toddler names Adeline. Pronounced Adda-Line. She's Addi for short. Lovely name.

Firebird83 · 20/01/2021 23:29

I think it’s usually adda-line isn’t it?

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 21/01/2021 05:14

It is pronounced ada-line (line like Caroline) and it beautiful when pronounced in this way. I strongly dislike the ada-leen pronounciation. Makes it sound a bit dated - maybe reminds me of names like Kathleen?

soggyandwet · 21/01/2021 05:32

Wasn't she the annoying woman in Bread?

MercyBodle · 21/01/2021 06:59

I have only come across it pronounced as Add-uh-line like 'fine' so you may have to correct people a lot with your pronunciation. I don't mind it but much prefer Adelaide.

PolarnOPirate · 21/01/2021 07:01

I would be most likely to pronounce the name in this order:

Ada-lin
Ada-line
Ada-leen

All v popular, all v pretty, Ada skyrocketing too! Because it is lovely.

FinallyHere · 21/01/2021 07:11

Love it. My late mother (born 1927) 's name.

She was named for an aunt.

Juanbablo · 21/01/2021 07:20

I love it. The one I know is said Adda-Line.

musicalfrog · 21/01/2021 07:30

Sorry I'm not a fan. Reminds me too much of Aveline from Bread!

Thisonemaybe · 21/01/2021 10:17

Thanks, yes it was the name of an old (French) relative. I had wondered that about the pronunciation with the film. I am a bit concerned that everyone will think she doesn't know how to say her own name?!
