Is the name for a boy or girl?

DinosaurDiana · 19/01/2021 08:31

For me Brooke is female and Berkeley male ( but for me it’s a dog’s name - sorry)

EdgeOfACoin · 19/01/2021 08:31

Brooke is definitely a girl's name. Ryan definitely is not (unless it is your surname?)

EdgeOfACoin · 19/01/2021 08:32

Also, not sure if you're in the UK, but if you are I would avoid giving any name that could be shortened to berk...

ImAncient · 19/01/2021 08:34

Neither.

sluj · 19/01/2021 08:36

Agree, look up Berkeley Hunt for cockney rhyming slang. Not good

thriftyhen · 19/01/2021 08:37

Boy or girl? l don't like either name. Do you live abroad? They sound like names that might be more usual in The States or Australia. Sorry, but you did ask for opinions!

Dippysauceus · 19/01/2021 08:37

Berkley is likely to get shortened to Berk.

Scarby9 · 19/01/2021 08:37

I agree about avoiding the Berk abbreviation in the UK.
It sounds as if you like BK names, not just B names, and surname type names too.
So what about:
Baker Ryan
Barclay Ryan
Brinkley Ryan
Brenkley Ryan
Backley Ryan
Bracken Ryan
Brackley Ryan
Braxton Ryon

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 19/01/2021 08:38

Brooke is not to my taste but perfectly fine for a girl.

Berkeley is great..............for a spaniel. Not so much for an actual human child.

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 19/01/2021 08:39

Brenkley?!!! Brackley?!!!

COME ON 😂😂😂😂😂

EdgeOfACoin · 19/01/2021 08:41

Hmm
inquietant · 19/01/2021 08:44

Brooke is ok for a girl a la Brooke Shields, but Berkeley is all kinds of wrong imo.

The list above is pretty Hmm

The king B name is Benjamin.

Fieldofyellowflowers · 19/01/2021 08:49

Are you in the UK, OP? Are you having a boy or girl?

Brooke is a nice name for a girl. I have never heard of a boy having that name.

Berkeley sounds more like a boy's name and in the UK, as others have said, it will likely get shortened to Berk.

AuntieStella · 19/01/2021 08:50

Berkeley could all too easily be changed to Berk, which is not nice.

And of course lots of people will pronounce it wrongly (because they'll sight read it)

And that it's half of rhyming slang for 'cunt' would put me off forever.

Other B names - on the basis that Brooke is a girl's name and I'm assuming Ryan here is a transferred family surname which goes in the middle where usual sex doesn't matter:

Barbara, Beulah, Bridie (Bridgit), Beverley

ImAncient · 19/01/2021 08:51

Oh yes meet my child Braxton Hicks Hmm

If you like unusual B names I think Bryony can be quite pretty for a girl. I agree about Benjamin for a boy.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2021 08:52

🤔 You absolutely can't call a child Berk.

MrsWaititi · 19/01/2021 08:52

Neither.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 19/01/2021 08:58

Both are pretty awful

Winterwaves · 19/01/2021 08:59

OP are you in the UK?

PattyPan · 19/01/2021 09:25

Neither. Berkeley isn’t a given name Hmm

Bethany?

starfishmummy · 19/01/2021 09:29

Im not keen on either but I guess Brooke would be better. You're going to condemn the child to lofelong issues of pronunciation with Berkley (burkley or barkley...)

EuroTrashed · 19/01/2021 09:31

BALONZ

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 19/01/2021 09:40

Euro 🤣🤣

The true king B name 🙌

MercyBodle · 19/01/2021 09:49

I like Brooke.
