Saskia or Scarlett

DH & I still have 4 months to go until first DC. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing given how wildly our liked names are changing.

We think we like Saskia and Scarlett but not sure if they sound too harsh. Also, (and could be an obvious reason to rule it out) we’re debating whether Saskia is pronounced Sah-skia or Sas-kia (hope this isn’t too ridiculous a question).

Grateful for any thoughts on these two names

Scarlett.
(Have only ever heard Saskia pronounced with a short ‘a’ though.)

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/01/2021 14:16

Saskia. I've only ever heard it pronounced Saskia never Sarskia.

galaxy9 · 18/01/2021 14:39

Love both. Only thing worth noting with Scarlett is that she may get nicknamed Scar and you might not like that

vminkookie · 18/01/2021 14:41

Saskia - only know this as Sass-kia.

I know a few Scarletts.

FAQs · 18/01/2021 14:41

I’ve got a Scarlett, it’s never been shortened by anyone. Although frequently misspelt.

Pixilicious · 18/01/2021 14:42

Saskia (sass-Kia)

Arrierttyclock · 18/01/2021 14:43

Saskia is lush

Quercus3 · 18/01/2021 14:48

Saskia is wonderful

AdaColeman · 18/01/2021 14:50

Saskia is lovely!

baumwolle · 18/01/2021 14:50

Saskia

Smellybluecheese · 18/01/2021 14:52

Saskia

statetrooperstacey · 18/01/2021 14:53

I know a couple of young scarletts and a new baby. so I vote saskia , it’s a lovely name. In our house she would probably be known as sassy, which is also lovely!

FuckOffBorisYouTwat · 18/01/2021 14:53

Saskia. Lovely name. Scarlett is great but lots of them about around here.

Sausagedog1 · 18/01/2021 14:54

Only ever heard Saskia not Sahskia.

I really dislike Saskia but I LOVE Scarlett. It's my top choice if I ever have a DD.
I think it sounds feminine but strong.

LaBellina · 18/01/2021 14:54

One of my closest friends is named Saskia so my vote goes to that name. Very pretty and classy.

christmasathomeagain · 18/01/2021 14:56

I don't like either but if had to choose I would go with Scarlet.

I've only ever heard it pronounced
Sas-kee-ah

OwlWearingGlasses · 18/01/2021 14:56

Saskia (Sassy as a nickname)

FreakinFrankNFurter · 18/01/2021 14:58

Saskia is fab. It was our girls name when I was expecting 8 years ago. I remember being at a hospital appointment and a patient called Saskia being called in for her appointment. Phoned DH straight away as it was the first girls name I’d loved and he loved it too as soon as I told him.

We don’t have a Saskia as we had a boy instead. Smile

I know a couple of Scarletts but no Saskias

TokenGinger · 18/01/2021 14:59

I love both but I think I'd go Saskia, purely because I live in an area where the letter t gets dropped, I even do it myself without thinking sometimes. DS's best friend is called Scarlett and I hate how it sounds when I drop the t myself accidentally.

LadyEloise · 18/01/2021 15:15

Saskia is gorgeous.

A poster on here has the username SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed, which is brilliant Smile

I'm not into names like Scarlett, Jade, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald etc

sesquipedalia · 18/01/2021 15:16

Love Saskia, don't meet many, the only one I know is awesome.

Scarlett - meh. 10 a penny!

LuckyAmy1986 · 18/01/2021 15:35

Saskia!

notalwaysalondoner · 18/01/2021 15:44

I’m tempted to say Scarlett as I love Saskia and might use it myself and think it may be about to become big! It’s pronounced Sasss-Kia not Sarrrs-kia. I think it has Eastern European origins so would have a short “a”.

Alwayswrongneverright · 18/01/2021 16:33

Definitely Saskia (not sar-skia) I really like it, feel it's quite unusual at the moment, but I have an irrational major dislike of scarlett so I may be biased

ParisJeTAime · 18/01/2021 16:41

Saskia is lovely! Definitely the nicer of the two.

I also have only ever heard it pronounced Sass-Kia. Never sah-skia.
