Vaila?

Heard the name Vaila recently and I really like it.

What do you think?

Middle name would be Violet as it’s a family name, but is Vaila Violet a bit of a mouthful? Surname is a 2 syllable girls name beginning with P. OH loves Grace so could be Vaila Grace instead.

Beautiful name, I'd go with grace to avoid the double V - it doesn't quite sound right to me

I quite like it, she could be Veve for a nn.

It is a bit of a mouthful because there are a lot of repeated letters, but I don't think it really matters - middle names are rarely used. Plus it would give her the option of cute nn Vivi!

I love Vaila btw, but I think it is really unusual outside Scotland so I'd probably assume some Scottish heritage if that matters? I like the similar Greek name Vaia too.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam that’s true, I think middle names are often over thought for how little they are used. Yes, we’re Scottish and living in Scotland so I know one or two little Vailas already but I’m not too worried about popularity - Grace is also in the running but I’d love a wee nod to something Scottish.

@Lockdownlovernotfromliverpool my surname is an object, so would sound like I Own A -insert surname- it just doesn’t sound right to me, but it is a lovely name! Also where I’m from, the ‘I’ sound comes out really harshly in certain accents and I find it really offputting. Similar reason why I wouldn’t use Violet as a first name - it comes out with a really quick, harsh ‘I’ sound like ‘vylit’ and all I can hear is my grandad shouting it!

@SendHelp30 yes, pronounced like Vayla. It’s the name of a small island in Shetland.

Vaila Violet doesn’t sound right to me. But as a middle name it doesn’t really matter. Or you could add another middle name in the centre - Vaila Grace Violet?

@daisypond I was thinking that! Vaila may get vetoed anyway, I haven’t brought it up yet.

There is so much utter, utter rubbish about Scottish names - and I expect other names, too - on websites.

Iona - the Scottish island - either means 'Yew Tree Island or just 'island' as inery-important-saint- St- Columba's- base). Whatever it means - scholars do not agree - it has nothing to do with violets.

ffs - should be : 'as in very important saint ...'

It does sound an odd combo to me - maybe put something in the middle??

Violet is really nice, I don't like Vaila to be honest.
