Thanks for the replies everyone.

Seems quite an even split, I prefer Dominic but my husband has his heart set on Sebastian. He can't get on board with Dom and having grown up in Glasgow, the comedian Kevin Bridges done a joke about a boy called Sebastian which I can't get out of my head. It's a lovely name but I now can't think of any other boy except the one in his joke 😂

We have another few months to consider both!
Might need to go with our compromise name Jonathan instead! x

Jonathan is lovely!

littlemisslozza · 05/01/2021 22:30

Jonathan is the best of the three I'd say! Love it

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/01/2021 22:32

Sebastian because I really dislike the nn Dom (but Seb isn't too bad). If you could guarantee using his full name or the nn Nico instead, then I would have picked Dominic.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/01/2021 22:34

If you like Jonathan, what about similar Nathaniel? - I always think that's gorgeous and underused.

CherryBlossomTree7 · 05/01/2021 22:35

Dominic is awful (sorry). Jonathan is extremely out-dated.

However, Sebastian is lovely. I would definitely go for this.

Onlinedilema · 05/01/2021 22:48

Neither, they are both awful. Dominic has been ruined for me by Cummings and Rabb. Sebastian also sounds like bastard to me I can't explain it but that's what springs to mind. Jonathan is much better.

QueenCuntyFlippers · 05/01/2021 22:49

Sebastian 😍 I have one and he's brilliant... lots of opportunities for creative Nicknames... Sebnut, Sebastibum, et al 😂

Tambourina · 05/01/2021 22:49

Sebastian is lovely, nn Seb

Chilldonaldchill · 05/01/2021 22:49

Sebastian

Mixitupalot · 05/01/2021 23:02

Sebastian

calimommy · 06/01/2021 03:26

I have a Sebastian and when people learn his name they always say they love it and wish they could have used it themselves. I've never asked their opinions haha this is offered to me spontaneously. If it's shortened we call him Sebbie, but for the most part he is known by his full name.

Mally2020 · 06/01/2021 05:06

I like them both equally but if I were to pick one of the two tomorrow I would pick dominic

Rainbowqueeen · 06/01/2021 05:33

Love both but would pick Dominic as it is less common

EdgeOfACoin · 06/01/2021 05:33

Prefer Sebastian to Dominic and Jonathan.

You'll lose the joke association once the baby arrives anyway.

Bionicname · 06/01/2021 05:39

Am I the only one who really wants to know the joke now?

Bruce2 · 06/01/2021 13:03

It's probably not that funny to anyone unless you're born in West of Scotland Names like Sebastian are very uncommon and generally associated with very upper class posh people. The joke is the comedian moves from his council house to a "posh" part of Glasgow which is in the west end. Anyway he lives beside a little boy called Sebastian and the sketch is around how he feel inferior to to 10 year old and this wee guy with his private school blazer & cello is taking about debate teams wheh Kevin asks him to the best fighter in his school is.

Like I say...probably not funny to anyone unless you've lived in Glasgow.
It's not meaning the name is bad, it's just that Glaswegians would associate the name outwith their normally circles and I think that's how I feel. Just seems a bit posh for someone with a Glasgow accent. Doesn't quite sound as nice as it does with an English accent (we live in England now)

Both lovely

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 06/01/2021 13:13

My Dominic has only ever been called Dom by one person so I wouldn't worry about the not liking the shortened form thing (if that's a worry).

PhilippaArchersOlderSister · 06/01/2021 13:14

Dominic and Nicky for short if you can't get on with Dom.

I know two Sebastians both called "Basty" for short which sounds like either a turkey recipe or an insult.

I like your joke Grin

YoniAndGuy · 06/01/2021 13:15

I know a couple of horrible Dominics, and Cummings is the nail in the coffin sorry!

Love Sebastian. Not madly sold on Seb, but I'd definitely go for that over Dom, which makes me think of Joly.

YoniAndGuy · 06/01/2021 13:16

Well if Glasgow is the reference point surely the first thing you'd be thinking of is Belle and Sebastian anyway!

BUT - just seen that Jonathan is your compromise. It's the best of the bunch! Have a wee Jonty.

MrsSDK · 06/01/2021 13:17

Sebastian x
