Enoch? For a boy. And any ideas on nn?? Maybe nokki?
Our other kids have christian type names or meanings, but we still like semi unusual, not popular names.
I like josiah, dh doesn't. We also like Axel which means father is peace.
Have no girls names either so help is needed. I like nina. And that is it. Argh it's so hard!!!

Enoch Powell

EdgeOfACoin · 03/01/2021 17:39

Yes... Enoch Powell and his Rivers of Blood speech.

Unfortunately that's going to be a connotation for many people.

It's a shame, as otherwise I like the name.

00100001 · 03/01/2021 17:40

It's a crap name

partyatthepalace · 03/01/2021 17:41

I wouldn't OP - because of Enoch Powell / Rivers of Blood.

Love Josiah! Don't like Axel, reminds me of heavy metal bands, but that might just be me... Nina quite cute but sounds like a nn to me.

There have been some recent boys name threads - take a look at those.

EdgeOfACoin · 03/01/2021 17:41

Enosh is a similar Old Testament name. Or Micah?

gerbo · 03/01/2021 17:41

Enoch Powell. As a primary teacher I'd be slightly concerned about what an Enoch's parents would be like- racist connotations.

EileenGC · 03/01/2021 17:44

I had a friend at school called Enoc, but it was pronounced Eh-NOCK in our language and it worked well.

How about...
Micah (I love love love this)
Jonah
Elias

missmouse101 · 03/01/2021 17:44

No. Reminds me of eunuch.

whatausername · 03/01/2021 17:46

Powell. It's like "I'm a little teapot..." the rest of it just follows.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 03/01/2021 17:47

Jesus, you want to give him a name that is only ever associated with fascism?? Even if it wasn't Nokki is beyond ridiculous.

Nina is lovely.

For boys...Adrian/Adz - or Adrienne for a girl.

Etienne. Vincent. Ardal. Eugene.

Anything but bloody Enoch!

KeeefBurtain · 03/01/2021 17:49

Enoch is a step too far for me.

Ephraim?

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 03/01/2021 17:50

Oh I love Ephraim but it sounds awful with my surname.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 03/01/2021 17:50

No sorry OP, everyone in the UK will think of Enoch Powell and it doesn't have a nice sound imo anyway. Axel is Scandi/German or a rock star but still more useable than Enoch, and Josiah is quite biblical sounding but nice. Nina is gorgeous, simple and not overused.

Jonah
Rufus
Erik
Lars
Mads
Elias
Tobias
Asa
Ezra
Felix
Mathias

Anya
Lara
Zara
Lana

FluffyEggsontoast · 03/01/2021 17:51

Love Axel

FluffyEggsontoast · 03/01/2021 17:51

Eric?

FelicityPike · 03/01/2021 17:51

No. Definitely Powell, and he was far from Christian.

Whatthebloodyell · 03/01/2021 17:53

Enoch is not a usable name IMO.

I like Josiah though.

Also Elijah, Ishmael

Stinkyjellycat · 03/01/2021 17:54

Enoch Powell. Not a good association.

NameChange84 · 03/01/2021 17:56

Enoch Powell. I’d guess you were a racist in all honesty!

Meepmeeep · 03/01/2021 17:58

Name of a shopping centre / area of Glasgow.

RusholmeRuffian · 03/01/2021 17:58

You cannot call a child Enoch FFS!

ProudAuntie76 · 03/01/2021 18:03

It’s almost as bad as calling him Adolf Shock

Ephraim is gorgeous. And avoids the horrendous Rivers of Blood, racist connotations...shudders

LooneyLovefood · 03/01/2021 18:10

Makes me think of a creepy character from Miss Peregrine's School for Peculiar Children who could bring dead things back to life and give life to inanimate objects.

It's an odd name.

Orphlids · 03/01/2021 18:12

I used to work with a lovely chap named Enoch, but as he was a Black African man, I didn’t assume his parents were fascists. If you’re white, and you had a baby named Enoch, I’m afraid I’d think it was a possibility you were making an unpleasant political statement. It’s a shame, as I think it’s a very nice name.

Josiah, Axel and Nina are all good. What about Magnus or Suki?

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 03/01/2021 18:13

OK ha ha Enoch is off the list, never heard of Enoch Powell so going to have to research this twonk! 😂 I have looked at all the baby name threads and hate all boys names.
Ah back to the drawing board.
Why are names so freaking hard??
I want a biblical name, we are Christian. But not a really common one like the Joseph's, Matthews, Marks etc etc I am just not a classic name person.
Dh hates jonah, our other children like I said have either biblical names or names with references to our faith eg God is gracious, or answer to prayer etc etc.
Names I like dh hates, and names he likes I hate. Eg he likes Abe, and eli I hate both those.
