... can you recommend any others in a similar vein? Expecting DC2 in spring and just found out it’s a boy (already have one girl - lucky as we used the only girl name we could agree on for her!)

Guy
Francis
Benedict
Julian
Thomas
Laurence (Laurie)
Alastair (my least favourite but DH’s first choice)

Thank you!

That's a very nice list. It seems you like underused classics so I'd add:

Andrew

Dominic
Marcus

Stephen

I like Thomas and Alastair from that list.

I actually don't see your list as a 'whole'. So, similar to Thomas, I'd say
Daniel, Edward, Harry, James

Perhaps more similar to Guy and Francis - what about Simon, Christopher, Dominic.

Benedict and Julian I'd say were more like Toby and Sebastian

FluffyEggsontoast · 02/01/2021 20:55

Laurence is a great choice

msatlantis · 02/01/2021 20:58

I have an Alastair who is 15 months. Laurence was also on our list.
Classic but not 'popular' names IMO.
I also have a Samuel.

Thank you - I quite like Dominic as a few have suggested.
I think ‘classic but underused’ sums it up. My favourite is Laurence but DH not sure.

YoniAndGuy · 02/01/2021 21:26

Not Alastair - he'll just be Al, which is really boring!

Laurence is good. Love Laurie.

How about Jonathan, nn Jonty?

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2021 21:32

I don't think Adrian has been mentioned yet, another underused classic.

Floralnomad · 02/01/2021 21:36

Fabian
Christian
Really like your list except Guy and Francis

17caterpillars1mouse · 02/01/2021 21:40

Francis - love it, was on our list
Benedict - ditto
Julian - like it
Thomas - lovely classic
Laurence (Laurie) - nice
Alastair (my least favourite but DH’s first choice) - love it

Alot of your names were ones we considered (we had girls). We also liked

Alasdair
Alaric
Cedric
Patrick
Rufus
Ezra
Tristam
Struan
Tobias
Percival
Taliesin
Wyatt
Everett
Jonah
Elias
Nathaniel
Jeffrey
Zachary
Leonard

Any you like?

Diorissimo1985 · 02/01/2021 21:40

I don’t really like Adrian - makes me think of Adrian Mole!
I also knew an awful Adam which clouds my judgment.

@17caterpillars1mouse thanks - I like Patrick from your list - hadn’t thought of that at all!

lemonsquashie · 02/01/2021 22:11

Of your shortlist I like, Thomas (Tom) timeless and classic and Francis (Frank) not keen on Alistair but you have Ali. Can you compromise with Alexander?

lemonsquashie · 02/01/2021 22:38

Patrick is so nice . Paddy is cute

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2021 22:41

Patrick is gorgeous, but I don't like any of the diminutives at all. I used it as a middle name.

OP, haha to Adrian Mole, I didn't think of him. He might've made a classic name unusable.

Diorissimo1985 · 02/01/2021 22:56

@lemonsquashie we’ve talked about Alexander and we don’t love it - also we know quite a few of varying ages so it seems quite common to us.

Diorissimo1985 · 02/01/2021 22:57

Also if we use Alastair we’d maybe use Alasdair spelling (DH Scottish and our DD has a Scottish name). It’s not my favourite though!
