... can you recommend any others in a similar vein? Expecting DC2 in spring and just found out it’s a boy (already have one girl - lucky as we used the only girl name we could agree on for her!)

Really dislike Patrick - Pat is awful on a boy.

There are so many better Scottish boy names than Alastair! How about Malcolm (Mal) or Roderick (Roddy) for more traditional options? Gregor, Fraser, Struan are all a bit more ‘now’ choices.

We have similar taste in names - DS 1 and 2 are Alastair and Julian! Totally outing myself here if anyone so know irl is on here, but DS 3 and 4 are Dominic and Hugh.

@Ginandplatonic all lovely names! I like a lot Hugh but BIL is Hugh and it would be same first name/surname so can’t use it.

@Diorissimo1985 it was a long time ago now - they are teens/early 20s. I liked Sebastian but knew a couple and wanted more unusual names. (Ended up there were 2 Alasdair’s in his year at school - same spelling - and only one James, Thomas etc. 🤷🏼‍♀️ You just can’t pick it). Also liked Edward. TBH it was enough of a struggle to name 4 boys. I didn’t have many names left over by the end!

Just realised I spelt Alasdair’s name with a “t” before. We use a “d” - I was just trying not to out myself too much. Then realised that was pointless. 😂

One thing I love about the names I used is you can’t look at that list and guess how old my kids are I don’t think. I suppose because they are “classics” but have never been particularly popular. That seems to be what you are also going for. Maybe look at “Underused Classics” lists on baby name websites?
