We really struggle with names but we have landed on Jemima and as the days go on, we both actually like it.

I just can't decide if its OK or if we have lost our minds?! So tell me sensible people, what do you think of Jemima?

Any names like Jemima we might like?

It's not my taste, I'm not keen on the sound for some reason. Similar feeling names imo - Jessamine, Claudia, Tabitha, Annabel, Tamsin, Tara/Tamara, Keziah/Cassia, Talitha, Verity, Felicity, Imogen, Beatrice, Celia/Cecilia, Juliet/Julia, Bryony, Antonia, Lara/Larissa.

I like it, it's an attractive name. It does make me think of Jemima Puddleduck, the Beatrix Potter character, which is quite sweet really.

On the negative side I gather it has some racist connotations in the US, so you might want to think about that.

Really nice.

It’s lovely.

possibly racist. i suggest you do your research.

Namechangebuttercup · 31/12/2020 23:59

Love it. Would have calked DD that but DH didn't like it (didn't really work in his language).

Always been one of my favourite names. Go for it!

Well I've now just gone and checked. Never heard that the name Jemima was racist before.

And lo and behold..it's not. But branding using the name and stereotypes was, so the brand name and logo were changed, to make a separation between the old and new brand.

The name Jemima is not racist at all.

villamariavintrapp · 01/01/2021 00:05

I wouldn't use it because of the racist connotations either

Aquamarine1029 · 01/01/2021 00:06

Aunt Jemima. Nope.

FallingStar21 · 01/01/2021 00:12

Reminds me of Jemima Rooper, such a lovely actress!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 01/01/2021 00:12

out of interest is it a no to uncle Ben?

NatFac · 01/01/2021 00:44

How about Jemma / Gemma instead? As someone else said, Jemima makes me think of Jemima Puddleduck.

Chilldonaldchill · 01/01/2021 01:17

I love it. I think it's hard to use in the States but it's fine in the UK.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 01/01/2021 01:18

All I hear is Puddle duck

partyatthepalace · 01/01/2021 01:30

I really like it, underused too.

Tabitha, Cecily, Eloise, Clementine, Rosalie, Harriet/Henrietta, Emily, Bea (Beatrice), Alice, Emma, Lucy, are all names I’d think of as occupying the same space

People don’t worry about Alice in Wonderland so don’t see why you need to worry about Jemima Puddleduck.

SmeleanorSmellstrop · 01/01/2021 02:04

LOVE it!

notangelinajolie · 01/01/2021 02:17

no.

MercyBodle · 01/01/2021 03:20

I love Jemima. One of my favourite names. I would use it without hesitation if it went with my surname.

longdarkwinter · 01/01/2021 03:40

Jemima is a nice sounding name to my ears.
It has different connotations in the USA, hence the race comments but it doesn't have those connections in the UK.

EdgeOfACoin · 01/01/2021 08:45

I like Jemima!
