What are people’s opinions on the name Forrest?

DH and I have looked through hundreds of names lists and we just cannot find one that we love.

So we are trying to find a name that means something to us instead. Forrest is my grandma’s maiden name.

Also Forrest is a fairly uncommon name and my DD has a fairly popular name which I’m not sure if that would be strange.

Gump. I’m sorry, it is a lovely name, except that every single person that hears it will immediately think, Gump.

sesquipedalia · 27/12/2020 16:31

I can't get past Gump I'm afraid

BeesAnkles · 27/12/2020 16:32

As above. I like it a lot but can't get past the Gump association.

Babyanabell · 27/12/2020 16:33

The Forrest Gump reference doesn’t actually bother me, I am a huge Tom Hanks fan so I kind of like that connection. But thank you for your opinions.

go for it

Rockpooler · 27/12/2020 16:34

Forrest Gump had learning difficulties- kids can be cruel. Don't do it.

JurassicShay · 27/12/2020 16:34

I know of a beautiful little girl called Forrest, really suits her. I like it.

SnowyOwlWan · 27/12/2020 16:35

ooooooh no. What about Du Bois or Sylvester??

Forrest is just unusable.

CoronaIsWatching · 27/12/2020 16:35

You've clearly taking inspiration from Forrest Gump and not your grandmothers maiden name

MawkishHawk · 27/12/2020 16:40

What if he can’t run though

june2007 · 27/12/2020 16:40

Love Forest. Don,t see why you need an extra R.

Babyanabell · 27/12/2020 16:41

@CoronaIsWatching I’m not really sure what the point of your post is but the reason we picked the name was because of the family connection. If it was just Tom Hanks there would be lots of different options I could of gone with.

Awful.

I am not a fan of giving a person a noun for a name, as a general rule anyway
Nor am I a fan of surnames as first names.

All without the Forrest Gump link

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 27/12/2020 16:45

Will be a great name for sports day.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 27/12/2020 16:47

Gump.

He will get 'run Forrest run' for his whole life.

And when he tells people his name they will say 'as in Gump?'

Your child will have to have this name their whole life, don't make it more difficult for them.

Suzi888 · 27/12/2020 16:48

I’m not a fan of it.

BullshitVivienne · 27/12/2020 16:50

Forrest Gump came out in the early 1990s. Name one kid under 10 who has seen it.

I think it's a lovely name. Go for it.

Mrstwiddle · 27/12/2020 16:53

That would be really mean, come up with something that doesn’t have the baggage with it.

DuchenneParent · 27/12/2020 16:54

How many teenagers are even aware of Forrest Gump? Probably even less by the time any currently-unborn babies are teens. Too dated to be an issue, IMO. It's a nice name, you should go for it.

livefornaps · 27/12/2020 16:54

Run, Forrest!!!!

Ducksurprise · 27/12/2020 16:56

I don't know any U10 but my teenagers and their friends all know and watched it.

JorisBonson · 27/12/2020 16:57
