What do you think?
Pronounced A-lay-thea

I worked with one years ago. Hated her name apparently.. Used Lea.
Had a dd...
Guess what she called her?!
Not my cup of tea...
We had Athena on our list.

Theimpossiblegirl · 21/12/2020 17:22

I prefer Aletheia (aleetheea) or Althea but your version is fine, it's a classic, underused name.

AuntieStella · 21/12/2020 17:23

The one I know in RL pronounces it A-lee-thee-a and I think that's a lovely name

IsolaPribby · 21/12/2020 17:24

It makes me think of the alethiometer from His Dark Materials.
That may or may not be an issue.

FelicityPike · 21/12/2020 17:25

It sounds to me like someone with a lisp trying to say Alicia.

doctorhamster · 21/12/2020 17:27

I would thin it should be pronounced A-lee-thee-a

NeonSparkle · 21/12/2020 17:35

Not a fan personally

BigusBumus · 21/12/2020 17:38

Its horrible i think, very try hard. But each to their own.

Lucylivesinamushroomhouse · 21/12/2020 17:40

Well I LOVE it! It means truth. I know one who goes by Thea, also a lovely name

MamaDane · 21/12/2020 17:43

Lovely name, OP. I would pronounce it A-Lee-Thea though

CorianderQueen · 21/12/2020 17:44

Are you a Ship of Magic fan by any chance?

Nell96 · 21/12/2020 17:48

Not keen, I think it's a bit 'clunky' to pronounce. I prefer Althea or just Thea. Love Athena.

YoniAndGuy · 21/12/2020 17:54

Really dislike it. Overly fussy, too many syllables, really clunky... and still manages to be utterly boring. In the same stable as Anthea or Anita.

FatherTedsBankAccount · 21/12/2020 17:55

@IsolaPribby

It makes me think of the alethiometer from His Dark Materials. That may or may not be an issue.
It means "truth" in Greek, which is why Pullman named the instrument that way.

Beautiful, substantial girl's name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/12/2020 18:48

I've only heard it pronounced Ah - lee - thee - ah . It's a beautiful name though with a lovely meaning.

Ellmau · 21/12/2020 19:11

It's lovely.

You could use the Alathea spelling.

Sarahandduck18 · 21/12/2020 19:13

I’d pronounce it a-lee-thee-a but it’s nice.

Veterinari · 21/12/2020 19:54

It's Greek and pronounced A-Lee-this and spelled Alethia

Changing the spelling and pronunciation just creates unnecessary and tedious explanation

Arnoldthecat · 21/12/2020 19:58

No..

MercyBodle · 22/12/2020 11:08

I like it pronounced Al-ee-thee-ah.

partyatthepalace · 23/12/2020 16:16

I think it's a bit of a nightmare to say and spell and she wouldn't thank you so I'd think of something else. There are lots of nice long girls names with nice meanings etc.

Where on earth do you people get these names from? It is AWFUL. Find something normal - poor child being saddled with a stupid name.

SpacePug · 23/12/2020 18:47

I know one in real life pronounced a-lee-thea
She goes by Leafy

Westfacing · 23/12/2020 18:48

It's an old name - I'm 66 and there was a girl in my class called Alethea, pronounced a-lee-thee-a.
