Thoughts on the boys list now. Ty.

Daniel wins. Lovely classic name, quite unusual at the moment.

James is a great name, perennially popular for good reason.

Personally don't like Jacob, neither the sound nor the strong biblical associations.

Richard is ok, but don't like any of the shortenings, don't really like the sound of it. Still feels fusty to me.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 20/12/2020 12:39

Love Daniel

Zofloratheexplora · 20/12/2020 13:13

Richard. I haven't met a little Richard in ages

CrochetOrBust · 20/12/2020 13:15

Daniel James

Don’t like James as a first name really but it’s a great middle name. I like Richard but not the inevitable shortenings

diddlediddle · 20/12/2020 13:16

I am having to stop myself making a juvenile joke about ex boyfriends and "little Richards". For that reason, I'm out

Randomrebel · 20/12/2020 13:25

In your list I only really like James sorry. How about maybe Michael, Andrew, Peter, John or Paul?

Daniel was top of our list but in the weeks before giving birth the weirdo/psycho in every drama was called Daniel. A couple of years later worked with two Daniel’s both were unbearable knob heads for different reasons so really glad we didn’t go for it.

KirstenBlest · 20/12/2020 13:26

Richard, as it seems more unusual.

I'd choose James, but it is always popular.
Jacob and Daniel are fine, but I wouldn't use them.

KirstenBlest · 20/12/2020 13:29

Choose the one that goes best with the surname.
I also like Michael, Peter, John and Paul.

If you choose Daniel or Jacob , bear in mind that they will be Dan or Jake.

DramaAlpaca · 20/12/2020 13:54

All good, strong classic names. My favourites are James and Daniel but I like the others too.

MondeoFan · 20/12/2020 13:57

James is my fave. A classic name and sounds great

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/12/2020 14:01

Those are all excellent names. I'd probably go for Richard or Daniel, but you can't go wrong with any of those.

There is a little Richard (Richie) in DS (6)'s class - that's the only one I've met, whereas the others are more common. There are scores of Jacobs. The Daniels are mostly east European around here.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 20/12/2020 14:03

Daniel or James.

Twizbe · 20/12/2020 14:06

Richard or James. I know a few Richards in their early 40s but no little ones

ForestNymph · 20/12/2020 17:09

Richard is a good choice, I haven't heard of any young Richards for ages. I also like James and Daniel but I'm not keen on Jacob

user1493494961 · 20/12/2020 17:10

Jacob or James.

TheNanny23 · 20/12/2020 18:05

I like Daniel or James.

Daniel more uncommon now and makes me think of the Bat for Lashes song.

VenusClapTrap · 20/12/2020 18:07

Richard!

itsgettingweird · 20/12/2020 18:44

My order

Jacob
Daniel
James
Richard (I prefer Ricky)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/12/2020 18:50

Richard would be so refreshing to hear now, and he's very likely to be the only one in his school class! It's a lovely name, but do you like Richie or Rick, as it may well be shortened?

Daniel and Jacob are nice enough (but again, do you like Dan and Jake?), but my choice after Richard would be James - it's unlikely to be shortened (although there are nn's if you want them) and James is the ultimate classic boys name which has finally fallen out the top 20.

Firebird83 · 20/12/2020 19:13

Richard! I agree it would be refreshing nowadays.

PurBal · 20/12/2020 19:42

Daniel is my favourite.

MamaDane · 20/12/2020 19:47

Love Daniel. It was on our list.

Tavannach · 20/12/2020 19:48

James

finallychangedmyusername · 21/12/2020 09:16

Daniel and Jacob are two of my top boys names.
James is lovely too, but very popular.
Richard would be refreshing to see on a baby.

evilharpy · 21/12/2020 09:18

I like them all. Jacob is very popular for boys, there are several in my daughter's year, but the others much less so.
