I think that this is the name for my son. Just wanted to know what you all thought. Thanks in advance.

A friend's grandson is called this - I like it Smile

PeggyMoo · 18/12/2020 18:55

I think it’s a surname

titchy · 18/12/2020 18:55

Monsters Inc! Grin

Aethelthryth · 18/12/2020 18:56

It's a surname. Sully is a character in "Monsters Inc"

zzzebra · 18/12/2020 18:57

My favourite boys name.

Moltenpink · 18/12/2020 19:00

Love it

FestiveStuffing · 18/12/2020 19:02

I like it. Lots of boys' names are surnames- Carter, for example. It does make me think of the big blue Monsters Inc monster but there are worse things to associate a name with.

DramaAlpaca · 18/12/2020 19:03

The meaning of the word sully isn't pleasant. That would be enough to put me off.

Sullivan is a very common surname here in Ireland, it strikes me as odd to use it as a first name.

EbbaDay · 18/12/2020 19:44

Love it love it love it. I would be charmed to meet a Sullivan.

percheron67 · 18/12/2020 19:56

Dreadful.. It is a surname!! By the way, if your have a second, not a good idea to call him Gilbert. Just a thought .................

GlitterBiscuits · 18/12/2020 20:07

Sully - as in to get things dirty? No. Ugh.
Although a cute monster.

ramblingsonthego · 18/12/2020 20:08

I like it. Very American but I still like it.

TornadoOfSouls · 18/12/2020 20:10

No, I don’t like it. Sullivan is a surname and Sully isn’t a nice nickname.

pinkpanther84 · 18/12/2020 20:11

I don't like it I'm afraid

Himawarigirl · 18/12/2020 20:11

Unusual but I like it and the nickname.

Jellybean100 · 18/12/2020 20:14

I really like it and know of one. I also like Sonny☺️

RedLimoncello · 18/12/2020 20:16

Sullivan. I really like it and I don’t usually go for surnames as names. But yes, it makes me think of someone kind and strong for some reason.
Not as keen on Sully but it’s a grower.

anotherboyontheway · 18/12/2020 20:20

I like it!x

Spidey66 · 18/12/2020 20:21

I don't like surnames as first names, don't like Hunter, Archer, Fletcher etc.

So it's a no from me, sorry.

HolyMusicalBman · 18/12/2020 20:27

Just wanted to say, I know it's typically a surname but there's been plenty people given it as a forename. Plus, I know of quite a few Sullivan/Sullys here in England

OP posts:
GintyMcGinty · 18/12/2020 20:27

Hate it. Sorry.

Sully is worse than Sullivan though.

Mavedrai · 18/12/2020 20:28

I like it -- it has a certain rugged masculinity. (Probably because I associate it with "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman.")

WiseOwlWan · 18/12/2020 20:29

No. Any irish speaker is going to hear One.Eye
Suil Abhain

WiseOwlWan · 18/12/2020 20:30

Yes totally fine as a surname.

Letsrunabath · 18/12/2020 20:31

I think Sullivan is a lovely name, my sons got a surname as a first name.
It’s not unusual in Scotland to use the mother’s surname as a name or middle name.
Do what you thinks right for your family.
